Roger Federer has been eliminated from the 2011 Rogers Cup as Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has eliminated the Swiss Maestro for the second consecutive tournament.

Tsonga, the player who beat Federer at Wimbledon earlier this year, played a strong match as he eliminated the world number three 7-6, 4-6, 6-1.

The loss of Federer in the draw at Montreal means that three of the 'Big Four' are out of the Masters Series 1000 event with Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal already out of the tournament.

However, Federer's loss to Tsonga was not as surprising as Murray's loss to Kevin Anderson or Nadal's loss to Ivan Dodig.

Tsonga will now face Nicolas Almagro in the next round as the Spaniard defeated Richard Gasquet. Despite Almagro's noted ability to play well on the clay court, his hard court game is not.  The current world number 10 could very well be happy with a quarterfinals appearance in the Rogers Cup.

Tsonga should be a favorite in that match with a possible semifinal showdown between himself and Novak Djokovic looming.

All results from Thursday in the men's singles draw are provided below from Montreal:
