The Rogers Cup (ATP Montreal) continued on Tuesday, although the action was suspended for the day due to rain before all the scheduled matches were completed.
However, the men's singles draw still saw nine results come in, with the shocker of the day being the elimination of fourth-seeded Andy Murray, the two-time champion at the Canadian Masters.
Murray fell to South Africa's Kevin Anderson 6-3, 6-1 in what was a surprising rout. Anderson has shown glimpses of being a Top 25-calibre player this year. If he can take advantage of his draw in Montreal this week, he will take a significant step toward reaching that new height.
The only other seeded players to fall in Montreal on Tuesday were France's Gilles Simon, the ninth seed, fell in straight sets to Germany's Philipp Petzschner, and Russia's Mikhail Youzhny, who fell to Michael Llodra.
The other results from the men's singles draw are listed below:
Michael Llodra (FRA) d M Youzhny (RUS) 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(4)
Viktor Troicki (SRB) d [Q] M Yani (USA) 2-6, 6-3, 6-1
[WC] V Pospisil (CAN) d Juan Ignacio Chela (ARG) 4-6, 6-3, 6-4
Sergiy Stakhovsky (UKR) d Philipp Kohlschreiber (GER) 6-2, 7-5
[Q] Michael Russell (USA) d Albert Montanes (ESP) 7-5, 6-2
Janko Tipsarevic (SRB) d [Q] Alejandro Falla (COL) 7-5, 6-1
Tennis fans looking for the results involving either Juan Martin Del Potro or Novak Djokovic are advised that their matches were scheduled for late on Tuesday. However, due to the rain they will play their second-round matches on Wednesday afternoon instead.
