PGA Championship 2011: Rory McIlroy Enters as Favorite, Will He Win?
PGA Championship 2011 Preview for Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy, the 22-year-old golf star from Northern Ireland, is taking the golf world by storm and has no plans to slow his roll anytime soon.
McIlroy is quickly becoming the hottest ticket in golf and will be looking to become the next Tiger Woods. He already won his last big event in the United States when he took home the U.S. Open championship and he performed adequately this past weekend at the Bridgestone Invitational.
McIlroy came in sixth at the Bridgestone and will be looking to turn that success into a victory at the Atlanta Athletic Club this coming weekend.
According to Bodog Sportsbook, McIlroy enters the tournament as the favorite with his odds coming off at 10-to-1. With that in mind, will Rory be able to turn his status as the favorite into a victory?
McIlroy tends to play very well on this side of the pond, and with a solid performance at Firestone Country Club, he has momentum on his side entering the PGA Championship.
McIlroy looked solid all around last week, as he hit 65 percent of all fairways and was driving the ball an average of 315 yards. With that sort of accuracy and power, he has a clear advantage over the competition heading into this weekend.
If he can drive the ball that distance and increase his accuracy just a bit, he will have no problem finding himself at the top of the leaderboard come next weekend.
McIlroy has performed well in two of the three majors he has taken part in this year and is ready to perform well at the PGA Championship.
It is tough to predict a winner in a wide-open field, but McIlroy is the favorite for a reason and will be lifting the trophy on Sunday afternoon.
