This weekend Rashad Evans has opened some eyes after his great display at UFC 133 against Tito Ortiz.
The result from that fight was Rashad becoming only the second person to knock out Tito. The only other fighter to ever do that is light heavyweight legend, Chuck Liddell.
This knockout takes place at Ultimate Fight Night 8 between Rashad and Sean Salmon. Rashad was making MMA appearance No. 10, and was ready to go in the main event of the night.
Fast forward to the beginning of the second round where the knockout takes place. Rashad and Salmon feel each other out for most of the first minute of the round. Rashad—sticking his left arm out to feel out Salmon—then unleashes a devastating head kick that drops Salmon quick.
Rashad immediately jumps over Salmon, throws one more punch and then the bout is stopped just over a minute into the second round.
Since this fight, Rashad has only lost once and that was in his first title defense against Lyoto Machida. Rashad is now definitely the No. 1 contender for the light heavyweight belt after his knockout win over Ortiz.
Rashad holds a career record of 16-1-1.
This fight was Salmon's UFC debut and was 9-1 entering the fight. Since this fight, Salmon has amassed a 9-13 record. Salmon is currently on a six-fight losing streak with his most recent loss coming against Joe Cason at NAFC: Mayhem, where Salmon lost by TKO in the first round.
Salmon has not fought inside the UFC since his UFC 71 submission loss to Alan Belcher in May of 2007.
