In case you’re just now joining us, Canadian MMA toy company Round 5 is producing an epic, 14-part mini-series titled The Bruce Lee Story: As Told by You in honor of martial arts legend, Bruce Lee and Round 5’s incredible new line of collectible Bruce Lee figures.
The Bruce Lee Story: As Told by You airs on the CollectBruceLee.com Web site with a new episode each week that features MMA fighters, trainers and other known celebrities giving us their thoughts on how Lee has affected their lives, mixed martial arts and the world as a whole.
In this week’s episode of The Bruce Lee Story: As Told by You, UFC ring man and all-around likable guy, Bruce Buffer tells us how Lee has inspired him throughout his life and how he is responsible for the sport of MMA as we know it today.
“Bruce Lee is the reason that I got into martial arts, not mixed martial arts, but martial arts which became a form of mixed martial arts to me," Buffer said, "because of Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do theory when he first started out and he wrote about…he is the original mixed martial artist.”
Buffer is a passionate and very charismatic person and refers to Lee as a “legend of the arts” as he announces his name in Buffer fashion and full-on UFC style, as if he were about to fight.
Brazilian fighter and current UFC middleweight, Ricardo Almeida also speaks excitedly about the accomplishments of Lee and the philosophical nature of Lee’s theory of martial arts.
“Martial arts means more than just a punch and a kick," Almeida said. "You can see that he’s well-trained and there was a philosophy behind everything he did. That’s definitely what inspired me to like, even get started in martial arts.”
