WWE: Recapping and Analyzing CM Punk's Truth Filled Rant and Suspension

The Doctor Chris MuellerJun 27, 2011

Just over an hour ago Raw went off the air after CM Punk gave a promo filled with more truthful things than anyone would have predicted.

Did CM Punk go off script? Was the whole thing planned and pre-approved? I don't know, but what I do know is WWE needs more of what we saw tonight.

After costing John Cena a tables match with R-Truth, CM Punk sat on the top of the entrance ramp and proceeded to give what will no doubt be considered one of the more controversial promos ever given.

Punk started off by addressing Cena directly. He said he did not hate or even dislike Cena, but he hated the idea of Cena being considered the best. Punk claimed he was the best in the world, a claim met with a mixed reaction.

Punk did concede one thing to Cena, that he kissed Vince McMahon's ass better than Punk could. The first shock of the promo was the mention of Hulk Hogan. Punk said Cena was better than Hogan at kissing ass, but not as good as Dwayne, referring to the Rock.

Punk said he was hated from day one because Paul Heyman was his biggest backer. He mentioned another of Heyman's pet projects in Brock Lesnar. He said he would do what Lesnar could not and that's leave WWE as Champion.

Just the mention of Hogan, Heyman and Brock had me shocked, but it got even more surprising as time went on.

Punk said he finally realized that all the brass rings Vince McMahon sets are all imaginary and that he is the best both in and out of the ring, but never gets recognized by being featured in the Raw opening, USA shows, posters, talk shows, movies or even collector cups.

I tend to agree that Punk could be a great spokesperson. He went onto to say The Rock being in the main event of next year's Mania made him sick, which I am sure is a real-life sentiment held by some backstage.

Punk was getting some cheers at this point, so he turned on the fans and told them they were lazy, jobless autograph seekers who needed to stop pumping money into Vince McMahon's machine.

Punk did something I thought was the most surprising thing of all, he mentioned other promotions.

He said he might go defend the WWE Title in New Japan Pro Wrestling, or perhaps return to his home at Ring of Honor. This part is what made me think he might have gone off script a little bit.

The wave to Colt Cabana was priceless. Punk also talked about how he knew Vince McMahon would continue to make money without him, but he would never be a billionaire again because he only has yes-men working for him.

The jab to John Laurinaitis was quite shocking because he is a backstage employee who is not known to the casual wrestling fan, which is something that WWE tends to shy away from.

Punk said something next that took me by total surprise and said he wouldn't be shocked if the WWE was better after Vince McMahon was dead.

He also said that even in that situation, the company would end up in the hands of his stupid daughter Stephanie and son-in-law Triple H and their "stupid" family.

Punk tried to start a story by saying "You want to hear a personal story about Vince McMahon, you know that whole bullying campaign?" and then his mic was cut off.

Punk's look was so genuine that he was either genuinely pissed off or he is the best actor the WWE has. He got up and looked into the camera saying "You silenced me? I'm the best thing you have, I'm the best" and then the show cut off without so much has the standard production logo we usually see as the show fades off the air, another reason I think Punk took liberty with his promo.

The entire event was capped off by the fact that Punk was wearing a Stone Cold Steve Austin T-shirt the entire time.

I have to say that if this was all preplanned, then bravo to whoever was able to convince Mr. McMahon to do this because this was one of the most intriguing, memorable and realistic moments WWE has had in years.

The fact that it is public knowledge that his contract is indeed expiring soon Punk may have felt the need to leave his mark in the most memorable way possible.

I have to say that I am not going to forget this moment anytime soon. I truly think that whether this was a work or a shoot, this is one of those moments that will be talked about years from now.

CM Punk may be "future endeavored" in the morning, and he may fill out his deal until the end, either way I give WWE credit for keeping with him as long as they did.

The camera flashed to Cena and by the look on his face you could tell he was shocked at what he was hearing.

Rumors have been circulating that Punk intended to return to WWE after taking a break, but after what we saw tonight, if it was indeed real, then that may no longer be the case.

If this is real and Punk does not return to WWE then there are a few possibilities. A return to Ring of Honor would not be out of the question. After their recent buyout by Sinclair Media, they have a new TV deal that could help the promotion greatly.

ROH just announced the signing of Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin to contracts, a good sign that ROH is taking their future seriously. If Punk returned, he could help attract a much larger audience than they could have had.

Punk could end up in TNA, but I hope he does not because I do not think he would be featured any better on that sinking ship, plus his comment about Hogan may have shut that door.

Punk has always been known for being a little rebellious, but this enters a whole new realm of rebellion.

My common sense is telling me that we will see Punk again next week, and every week until Money in the Bank, but as I said before, an early release would not shock me.

Wrestling history is filled with people taking an opportunity and using it to shoot on the company on live TV, WCW had it happen a few times, most notably with Eddie Guerrero.

I hope I get to see Punk in WWE, but if he used this as an opportunity to really speak his mind then that may be a lost cause.

What did you think of Punk's shocking rant tonight?

Update: Since writing this article WWE has suspended CM Punk. They issued an official statement which can be read on their website.
