Strikeforce GP: Ranking the Strength of All 6 Fighters Left in the Tournament

Andrew MahlmannJun 18, 2011

The best thing about Strikeforce is their heavyweight roster. They simply have some of the biggest and best heavyweights in the world.

And I do mean biggest.

These guys are some of the most powerful athletes in all of MMA.

Three of the athletes for tonight's event weighed over 255 lbs.

Here are the six fighters left in the heavyweight Grand Prix, ranked by their physical strength.

6. Fabricio Werdum

1 of 6

Weighing in at 246 lbs for the fight tonight, Werdum is certainly not a weak heavyweight.

Even though he is making a name for himself as perhaps the best ground fighter in MMA, he still has four wins by KO/TKO, including two over notable heavyweight Gabriel Gonzaga.

5. Sergei Kharitonov

2 of 6

At 250 lbs, Sergei Kharitonov is one of the strongest heavyweights around.

Despite his considerable physical prowess, Kharitonov could be out-muscled by the rest of the fighters on this list.

Combined with his boxing abilities, however, he is still strong enough to knock anyone out.

4. Josh Barnett

3 of 6

Josh Barnett weighed in at 256 lbs but that does not even begin to tell the story about how physically strong Barnett is.

In his last fight, Barnett completely overpowered 265-lb Geronimo Dos Santos.

He may be fourth on this list but, make no mistake, Barnett is big and strong enough to push any heavyweight around.

3. Brett Rogers

4 of 6

Rogers used to tip the scales at around 265 lbs, but has shaped up to a trim 258 lbs again to face Josh Barnett tonight.

His game is constantly rounding out, but Rogers is a threat off of his physical strength and punching power alone.

2. Antonio Silva

5 of 6

The 6'4'' Brazilian actually has to cut some weight to make it down to the 265-lb weight limit for heavyweight.

He might not make it to the top of a list for most explosive athletes, but Antonio Silva's physical strength is as good as any heavyweight.

In his last fight, Silva was able to defeat the notoriously indestructible Fedor Emelianenko because he was the bigger stronger athlete.

1. Alistair Overeem

6 of 6

Alistair Overeem went from being a lanky light-heavyweight to being arguably the most functionally strong heavyweight on the planet.

Yesterday, Overeem weighed in at a cartoonishly muscular 256 lbs.

In his last Strikeforce title defense, he threw 265-lb Brett Rogers around like a rag doll.

He may not technically be the largest man in the field, but Alistair Overeem is physically the strongest competitor in the Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix tournament.
