La Liga: FC Barcelona Threatens to Sever Ties with Real Madrid
According to a breaking news story published in CNN International, FC Barcelona has threatened to cut all ties with Real Madrid if the 2011-2012 La Liga season is a repeat of the past one. The reason is that FC Barcelona has accused Real Madrid of "pushing the bounds of sportsmanship."
The threat was made in a press conference by FC Barcelona President Sandro Rossell. The declarations were published in the FC Barcelona website amid the hope that "common sense will prevail."
Rossell made comments about the "provocations" by Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho. Rossell commented about the accusations that Mourinho made about the results of the UEFA Champions League match between the two rivals.
The result of the accusations made by Mourinho resulted in punishment such as a five game ban by UEFA as well as restitutions in fines. Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid have launched an appeal before the UEFA Board.
I consider that the rivalry between the two clubs have become more personal and this has to stop. The only losers will be the supporters of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, as well as La Liga itself.
I am writing this article as a supporter of La Liga in the hope that peace, good sporting behavior, understanding and common sense will put an end to the senseless fighting between the two rivals.
Unfortunately, I feel lonely in this gesture for a more peaceful La Liga.
