G.I. Rock: The Real American Hero

Josh McCainJun 7, 2011

Some of you may have heard, others may have not, but Dead Spin is reporting that Dwayne the Rock Johnson is in talks to play Roadblock in the upcoming G.I. JOE sequel.

For those of you not familiar with Roadblock, check out his biography on Wikipedia.

I love the idea of The Rock joining the cast of the G.I. JOE movie.  After all, the JOEs are a larger-than-life anti-terrorism unit with larger-than-life characters.  There might not be an actor out there who personifies that more than the Rock.

However, I think the producers are missing out on an opportunity with casting the Rock as Roadblock.

Given that the Rock is a former WWE superstar, I think it would have been a pretty cool throwback to the original cartoon by having the Rock play the Rock, much like Sgt. Slaughter played a fictional version of himself in the cartoon.

Either way, I'm glad to see his inclusion in the sequel and, in spite of the cheesiness of the first film, I enjoyed it and look forward to its sequel.

UPDATE:

There isn't any new news to this article, however after talking about this topic with a friend of mine he suggested that Stone Cold Steve Austin should be in the cast as well.

I hadn't thought about it but I love the idea and felt I had to share with you all.

Austin and Rock had great chemistry together in the WWE and Austin has shown he has pretty decent Action Film acting chops, so why not.

I think the two could add a pretty decent "buddy-cop" aspect to the film.
