WWE Over the Limit Results: 20 Things We Learned

Robert AitkenMay 22, 2011

WWE Over The Limit has come and gone. There were some things expected that occurred and others that we hoped would happen that did not. All in all, it is time to look back and reflect on what we have just seen.

There was a lot that WWE taught to us at Over the Limit. Going forward to Capitol Punishment in a few weeks, here are 20 things that we learned on Sunday night.

1) WWE Remembers Randy Savage

1 of 20

Thankfully, WWE did not forget about the memory of "Macho Man" Randy Savage. Before beginning the event, there was a picture of Savage and an In Memory moment for him.

It was subtle and uniform to others in the past. It was not dwelled upon or even addressed by the commentators. It was business as usual for the pay-per-view after pausing for just a moment for Randy Savage.

It wasn't much, but it was just enough. Savage was not a huge part of the WWE in recent years that it would merit much of a tribute to interrupt the pay-per-view. It was exactly what WWE needed to do and I was happy with exactly what was done.

2) R-Truth Does Not Need a Theme

2 of 20

In the weeks since R-Truth has turned heel, I have been curious to see what they do with his theme.

When it finally came to be that R-Truth had to come out for his match against Rey Mysterio, all that we saw and heard was "The Truth Shall Set You Free".

That was it. R-Truth would walk out and not say a word. There was literally no music and no rapping by R-Truth. It was odd, but I kind of loved it.

3) R-Truth Is One of the Best Heel Talkers in WWE Right Now

3 of 20

R-Truth would continue before his match against Mysterio to talk to the fans. Truth was as weird as ever and really proved how much of a response he can get from the fans.

R-Truth needed to win tonight, which is exactly what he did and why it happened. Mysterio did not need this victory, but R-Truth did.

If it was still John Morrison in this feud, I could see Morrison getting a victory possibly. This was a very important win for R-Truth, one of the first wins he has had as a heel.

4) WWE Giving Ezekiel Jackson a Chance

4 of 20

Not only was Ezekiel Jackson given a title match on a pay-per-view, but he was booked pretty solidly.

Jackson had some time to cut a promo this past Friday on Smackdown and seems to be getting that chance that has eluded him since winning the ECW Championship.

Jackson is not being pushed toward a main event just yet and he may never get there. For now, at least he isn't stuck in gimmick spots like he was having with slamming Big Show and nothing else.

5) Torture Rack Is Back as Submission Move

5 of 20

This was one of the few pictures of a torture rack submission hold that I could find. This shows how much of a rarity this move is used.

I know that Jackson first used it Friday night, but it was nice to see it nearly win the Intercontinental Championship for Jackson.

Slater and Gabriel's involvement led to a DQ win for Zeke and Barrett retaining his title.

I would imagine that Barrett will have to defend it again against Jackson in the coming weeks.

6) Lighting Will Always Be Used for Sin Cara Matches

6 of 20

I don't understand this lighting scheme for Sin Cara matches. It annoys me that only he can get this lighting when he wrestles.

It also makes me wonder if Sin Cara could see better from his mask with the lights like this. Something would tell me that the lighting makes it harder to wrestle than normally.

At some parts tonight, Chavo Guerrero seemed like he was in a shadow.

7) Chavo Guerrero Looked Hurt

7 of 20

It also seemed like Chavo Guerrero was injured in the match. There was a reference to how Chavo was walking on his knee by Booker T.

Moves did not look as crisp, and Sin Cara won after a random huracanrana instead of his normal top rope flip.

Sin Cara did not look very happy after the match, and Chavo was not showed on the screen after rolling out of the ring at the end of the match.

8) Alberto Del Rio Must Be Seen at PPV

8 of 20

Alberto Del Rio was not on the card in any of the eight matches, which was odd. We then saw Del Rio randomly and I wasn't sure why.

Del Rio came out to talk about his destiny, which didn't really make much sense considering that he wasn't on the card at all.

I'm not really sure where that plays into the whole destiny argument. Big Show and Kane came out to tell Del Rio to get lost.

Basically, Del Rio is a necessary part of the event, even if he has nothing to do. Del Rio better enjoy that treatment. There will be a day where, regardless of how he is, he could be left off a pay-per-view entirely.

9) CM Punk Misses Macho Man

9 of 20

CM Punk showed his love for the departed "Macho Man" Randy Savage with the word "Macho" on the one arm that he had taped up.

Punk was also the only superstar who attempted Savage's patented elbow drop. He missed it and he lost, but it was still a nice tribute.

Besides, CM Punk always loses on a pay-per-view.

10) Fans Expect Kharma at Every Divas Match

10 of 20

Kharma has been a blessing for WWE's Divas division since her debut at Extreme Rules. However, Kharma has also been a bit of a curse.

It has now almost been expected to see Kharma every time there is a Divas match. Instead, Kharma was missing tonight, as well as last Friday on Smackdown. Fans were not pleased and booed.

Kharma is supposed to strengthen the division, not make it all about her.

11) Christian/Orton Is Match of the Year Candidate

11 of 20

This was a great match that toyed with my emotions for the majority of the match. For a moment, I really thought that this was Christian's time to win it back.

Orton won one of the best matches that I have seen in 2011. I would hope that this match is remembered when the end of the year comes around.

12) Randy Orton Steals Moves from Everyone

12 of 20

This is Colt Cabana (known as Scotty Goldman in WWE) doing the Chicago Crab, an inverted Boston Crab. Randy Orton did this move to Christian in their match at Over The Limit as well.

For all of the grief that Orton has brought himself for using Kurt Angle moves and tendencies, it makes me wonder why he has chose to steal from Colt Cabana now.

13) Potential Heel Turns Always Looking the Same Lately

13 of 20

WWE often falls into ruts at times. When they attempt to do similar moves with multiple characters, they often end up having them all look about the same.

It isn't clear if Christian is about to turn heel, but what they are doing with his character mirrors that of R-Truth from a few weeks ago. Both men gain high success that they have not seen in their long careers. They then lose out on a big-time match and look stunned.

Instead of moving along and trying again like before, they get angry at their opponent that they lost to. Christian could be turning heel at any time, now because it looks too similar.

14) RAW and Smackdown GMs Were Busy

14 of 20

Both the Smackdown GM, Teddy Long, and the anonymous RAW GM were missing from tonight's show, a nice change to the atmosphere.

We are aware that they are both there, but we didn't need to see them or hear from them to be reassured.

Stay in the back, Teddy. As for the RAW GM, there's no need to send any e-mails, whoever you are.

15) Jerry Lawler/Michael Cole Should Be over Now

15 of 20

Okay, Jerry Lawler won and Michael Cole was humiliated. Can we move on now, please?

16) Jack Swagger Not Going Face

16 of 20

Michael Cole left the window open for Jack Swagger to turn face, but did not show up tonight to help Jerry Lawler. Swagger is still a heel, but is no longer a heel with Michael Cole.

Instead, we saw Bret Hart, Jim Ross and Eve Torres help out. Swagger could have replaced Torres in this equation, but I guess he is staying put in terms of attitude.

17) John Cena Can Take a Beating

17 of 20

Cena's body took a lot of punishment against The Miz. Even if he wasn't as bloody as he was in his first one against JBL, this may have been the worst that Cena looked after an "I Quit" match. The Miz did a great job wearing him down, but did not do enough to make it to a victory.

18) Planted Kid Made Miz Look Weak

18 of 20

This isn't the kid that spoke to The Miz tonight, but they all look the same to me anyway. I blame kids like this one for what happened at the end of this match. I also blame that kid who was planted to be on camera and speak.

He was not afraid of The Miz harming Cena at all, making The Miz about as scary as a clown or Santa Claus.

19) Referees Ruining Matches Lately

19 of 20

Yet again, a referee is reversing decisions after making them moments before. The Miz pulled a fast one with the recorded voice of John Cena, but did not get away with it. If this were a decade ago, The Miz would be WWE Champion right now.

With the new business model that WWE has now, referees are now all-knowing and all-seeing. There is no longer that window for error and that gray area where a ref can be wrong and you just live with it.

If every mistake is being picked up by the human referees, why bother? Just let there be a referee who can call the match from a safe distance.

20) John Cena Booked Way Too Strong

20 of 20

We already knew about this, but it showed even more tonight. Cena took an incredible amount of punishment, but still ended up winning. The Miz hardly put up with a lot of injuries, but still tapped out.

No matter what Cena does, it is almost impossible to find the place where Cena can say the words "I Quit."

All that I know is that this is yet another reason for Cena haters to hate on the current WWE Champion.
