WWE Extreme Rules Results: 15 Most Memorable Moments of the PPV Event

Robert AitkenMay 1, 2011

There is a lot to bring away from Extreme Rules 2011. While it has classically become a WrestleMania rematch pay-per-view, this year's edition has been a welcome surprise in terms of it being memorable. Three titles changed hands. One of the best Divas around was forced to leave the company. One of the most dominant women in WWE history debuted. We even got to see David Hart Smith wearing a suit jacket and cowboy hat at ringside (yes, that was him during the lumberjack match).

Here are 15 memorable aspects to Extreme Rules and things that I have taken away from the event. While not all of them will be things to remember historically, they are all nice points to be made that will help to bring memories forward from the event.

The Reintroduction of Kendo Sticks

1 of 15

CM Punk and Randy Orton was a nice match to begin the night. The two put on a better match than the one that we saw at WrestleMania. The New Nexus was neutralized before the match even started, leading to the two putting on a nice Last Man Standing match.

The weapon of choice for the two was the Kendo Stick. Both men used the weapon repeatedly on one another and really showed exactly how to utilize a weapon in a match. It was very bad when we saw Kane and The Great Khali in a Singapore Cane match in 2009. This match almost made up for it and it wasn't even a weapon-specific match.

Somewhere, Steve Blackman is happy.

R-Truth Is a Conspiracy Victim

2 of 15

I am so used to R-Truth rapping when he has a microphone in his face that I am still getting used to the heel R-Truth. His promo during the draft on Monday night was not stellar, but the one backstage at Extreme Rules was fantastic. It even allowed R-Truth to complain about everyone and state that he is a victim of a conspiracy theory.

I can only hope that Chris Jericho aligns with R-Truth in some capacity and strengthens R-Truth's claim of a conspiracy theory. After all, Jericho has experience in that territory.

Sheamus Asks for Kofi's Birth Certificate

3 of 15

Not only did R-Truth have a good promo, but so did Sheamus, who spoke with Smackdown GM Teddy Long. Sheamus seemed upset upon the news of having to defend his title against Kofi Kingston. In a funny moment of the night, Sheamus stated that he was the champion of the United States and asked for Kofi's birth certificate.

This is especially funny considering that, while Kofi is from Ghana, Sheamus is from Ireland. It won't echo in WWE history as an all-time great moment, but it was a nice laugh and it helped set the mood for the night.

Kofi Kingston's U.S. Title-Winning Leap

4 of 15

Kingston won the United States Championship in a tables match when he leaped onto Sheamus through the table. Kofi got incredible elevation on the jump before splashing onto the Celtic Warrior. That jump will likely be the going off point for both men in the coming year. RAW has Kingston again, who last got a great push by doing a Boom Drop to Randy Orton on an episode of RAW. Smackdown now has Sheamus without a championship, leaving him wide open to be a top heel on the show.

Michael Cole's Love for Bubble Wrap

5 of 15

Michael Cole prepared for his Country Whipping match by covering himself in bubble wrap. This reminded me of the Zoltan cult from the movie "Dude, Where's My Car?".

Cole was just about as annoying as those geeks were in the movie, and they looked just as stupid. My only hope would have been that Jerry Lawler would walk up to Cole and start popping some of the bubbles just to anger Cole.

Michelle McCool's Last Match

6 of 15

It wasn't all laughable at Extreme Rules as we saw Michelle McCool have her last match in WWE when she lost to Layla. The match showed us more than we have seen from many other Divas matches. In the end, the better Diva, at least in the ring, lost. There were rumors suggesting that this would happen, and I wish McCool all the best. Michelle was the very first Divas champion and was the reason that the title was unified with the Women's Championship.

Debut of Kharma

7 of 15

How appropriate that a new breed of Diva would debut by taking out the outgoing Diva that had owned the division for the past few years. McCool looked into the eyes of Kharma as she was taken out by the unstoppable force. Kharma almost seemed like the Grim Reaper for Divas and disposed of McCool in a very dominant and creepy manner.

The Faces of Other Divas

8 of 15

The Divas in the locker room were obviously watching Layla and Michelle McCool closely, but did not expect to see what occurred. The debut of Kharma changes the game immediately for the rest of the Divas. Their faces said it all. They're all screwed.

Edge Drives a Jeep

9 of 15

With the World Heavyweight Championship up for grabs, it would be the former champ deciding the difference ultimately. While climbing for the belt, Alberto Del Rio was distracted by the honking of Edge in a jeep. It was enough to help Christian push the ladder over and take Del Rio out of the match.

This is a picture pulled off the Internet of Edge in his jeep. Yes, that was legitimately his personal car that he drove into the arena. I just find it awesome that Edge got involved in that way. He never had to leave his own car to help Christian in his match. With Del Rio driving a mess of cars that I doubt are all his, it was cool to see Edge in his real-life car.

Brodus Clay Busted Open

10 of 15

Despite being separated from Del Rio via the draft, big Brodus Clay was still there for his associate. Clay manhandled Christian to help give Del Rio a chance again, but Christian got his shots in on the big man as well. In fact, it appeared as if Christian was bleeding until you saw that some of that blood was that of Clay himself.

It was only until Del Rio's fall out of the ring showed a big puddle of blood that you realized that Clay had been opened up on his head pretty badly. I am sure that Clay is fine in the long run, but it looked like Brodus would definitely be in need of some stitches.

Christian Wins World Heavyweight Championship

This is obviously the big news of the pay-per-view. I am glad that Christian finally realized his dream of being a world champion in WWE. After his return from TNA a few years ago, Christian had a long road to go through to get to this point.

My only problem is that you can never not make a case that Christian only became a world champion in WWE because Edge was forced to retire. You can never truly prove that Christian was worthy in the minds of WWE creative teams.

R-Truth Screws John Morrison

12 of 15

You could almost see this dynamic coming. The only question was going to be how Morrison would be screwed by R-Truth. The answer would come when Morrison was so close to crawling out of the cage. Not only did Truth hurt Morrison and keep him inside the cage, but Truth then went into the cage, did some more damage to Morrison and then symbolically climbed out of the cage, a statement for "winning" the match.

This R-Truth/John Morrison angle will now be free to build in the coming weeks and months.

John Cena's Updated Moveset

13 of 15

John Cena hears all of the criticism from those who hate him. They tell him that he cannot wrestle. Instead of ignoring it, Cena has added new moves to his repertoire. Over the years, Cena has added submission moves, top rope moves and has performed various moves that are unusual for a man of his size, like a dropkick.

Cena helped John Morrison pull off a C4 suplex, a grounded version of the Spanish Fly (look it up, kids). It meant that Cena had to flip in a way that we have never seen him do. With the rotation that he made in the space that he used, it was similar motion to that of performing a 450 Splash. While that would be cool to see next, I am better with knowing how capable him and his surgically repaired neck are, as opposed to him showing us anything.

The Miz Concussed Again?

14 of 15

Both Morrison and Cena superplexed Miz from the top of the cage during the match. While this was a cool spot, it looked like Miz might have landed on his head at the moment of impact. This is always a big deal with the possibility of concussions coming into play. When you bring up the fact that Miz suffered from one at WrestleMania just a few weeks before, there is some concern.

Will this delay any future plans of The Miz? We hope that nothing serious happened tonight but chronic concussions have done many athletes in over the years. Hopefully, the same does not occur to The Miz.

John Cena Wins as Osama Announced Dead

As coverage about Osama Bin Laden being killed was invading our late night television sets, John Cena became the new WWE Champion. The two are not quite related, but the two may be linked by wrestling fans in an odd way. It also doesn't help matters that Cena is now wearing red, white and blue.

It will certainly be interesting to see all of the patriotism tomorrow night on RAW, as well as the confrontation between birthday boy The Rock and champion John Cena.
