WrestleMania 27 and the Five Greatest Announcers in Wrestling History

Cody SlovenskyJun 5, 2018

With WrestleMania 27 less than two weeks away, the current announcer is still unknown.

As a result, I am going to list the five greatest announcers in professional wrestling history.

There are many different names that come to mind, and picking a top five is no easy task, particularly due to the fact that some announcing greats were way before their time.

However, after doing much research, I believe I have come up with the five best commentators of all time.

5. Joey Styles

1 of 6

First off, many will say, "Are you crazy?"

His time in WWE wasn't the greatest, but his legendary announcing for the original ECW was amazing.

Known for his catch phrase, "Oh my God!" when watching a match, Styles' announcing made the experience so much better.

That's why I rank him fifth.

4. Jesse "The Body" Ventura

2 of 6

The greatest heel announcer to walk the planet.

Ventura, along with Gorilla Monsoon and Vince McMahon, put up some of the greatest match calling in all of wrestling history.

3. Gorilla Monsoon

3 of 6

A great wrestler, and an even better announcer.

He called some of the greatest matches of all time. He came up with memorable references, including "The Tombstone" (Undertaker's finisher) and "The Immovable Object."

2. Gordon Solie

4 of 6

Known as the "Dean" of wrestling, Solie was known for his phrase, "crimson mask."

Referred to by many as the greatest announcer of all time, Solie arguably earned that title for his hard work.

He never tried to make himself look good—it was always about the talent around him.

1. Jim Ross

5 of 6

What is there to be said about "Good Ol' J.R." that hasn't already been said?

He is the greatest of all time.

He was the voice of the "Attitude Era" and is the voice of WWE. Throughout his career, he was put in many storylines that made absolutely no sense but made up for that with his amazing match-calling.

There is virtually no debate that can say that he isn't the greatest, and deep down we all know that.

The odds are, I left out a few people.

The odds are, you will not agree with my order.

I am okay with that. We all have our opinions on who could be the best, but thank you for reading.
