Gennaro Gattuso To Face UEFA Justice After Head-Butting Joe Jordan

Roberto Alvarez-GallosoFeb 16, 2011

Gennaro Gattuso is going to be investigated by the UEFA Disciplinary Committee after head-butting Joe Jordan. Gattuso is currently the Captain for AC Milan.

The incident happened after the UEFA Champions League match between AC Milan and the Tottenham Hotspur, which resulted in a victory for the Spurs.

The cause was a heated discussion between the two individuals during the second half. Gattuso received a yellow card after tackling Spurs player Steven Pienaar.

Gattuso went into a frenzy of anger and started to argue with and push Jordan before Harry Redknapp (Spurs coach) broke up the argument.

It appeared that Gattuso was still in his frenzy throughout the game and that lead to the head-butting incident.

Gattuso also grabbed Jordan by the throat during the frenzy of anger that invaded his body, mind and soul.

Gattuso has since apologized to Jordan for "losing" his head. Redknapp declared that Gattuso was "crazy."

I am willing to forgive Gattuso, but the UEFA is right in investigating his unacceptable behavior. The match between the Spurs and AC Milan was great except for the violent behavior by Gattuso and others.

Mattheu Flamini's assualt on Vedran Corluka which resulted in an injury to his (Corluka's) ankle was another example. It is a surprise that the referee did not issue a red card for Flamini.

If I were a member of the UEFA Disciplinary Committee, I would have given Flamini and Gattuso a five-month suspension. While it may seem harsh, it is the only way they (if possible) would learn their lesson.

If they did not learn from their five-month suspension and repeated the same pattern, I would have expelled them permanently.

We should have zero tolerance in all sports, especially football/soccer. We should start by punishing the athletes who engage in these types of behavior in a consistent matter.

It is hoped that this article can be the start of a discussion on how to deal with violence in sports.
