Premier League 2010-2011: What Chelsea FC Can (And Must) Do To Advance

Roberto Alvarez-GallosoFeb 1, 2011

Chelsea F.C. started the 2010-2011 EPL Season with promises of a great season. The possibility of winning the Premier League title was great. Afterwards, the Blues started to fall apart.

The team started to lose some matches and there were others that ended in a draw. Manager Carlo Ancelotti was feeling the pressure from owner Roman Abramovich.

The Blues started their descent from the top of the Premier League standings. The only positive in the Blues was their first place standing in the Group F UEFA Champions League.

While everything appeared to be lost, a miracle ocurred within the team. The Blues started to win some of their matches by defeating Ipswich (by a large margin), Blackburn, and Bolton. The only draw was against Everton.

The Blues also signed David Luiz from Benfica and Fernando Torres from Liverpool. They paid a strong price for signing these players during the January (2011) Transfer Windows.

The icing on the cake was their spectacular come from behind victory against Sunderland.

Chelsea is now at a crossroads at the present time. It can (and must) find a method to advance and maybe win the 2010-2011 Premier League.

The beginning of any desire for success lies within.

The recent string of victories and paying a steep price for great players will not guarantee late-season success. The attitude within a team is most important. It is easier said then done taking into account the different personalities within the team.

The time has come to think "Yes We Can" and forget all forms of egotism for the good of Chelsea. The players should be listening to the technical director and the owner. An improvement in body language would help too.

The players should channel such positive thinking into a plan for winning. The mentality should always be to win.

My suggestion for Chelsea to inspire the psychological aspect of winning is to start each practice (and each game) with the song by Queen "We Will Rock You/ We Are The Champions".

While my suggestion sounds out of the ordinary, I remember that the Miami FC used the song in their match against Charleston South Carolina and won their match in spite of insurmountable odds.

Look Forward.

The key to success after receiving psychological inspiration is to play like it's the World Cup all the time. Chelsea has to show discipline, tenacity, and cooperation among the team members.

The Blues should not under any condition concede any plays to the opposing team. Petr Cech (and he is good at it) should continue to find ways to deflect attempts at goals.

Make Use Of Luiz And Torres.

While Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba (among others) have been scorers, make use of Fernando Torres and David Luiz.

Chelsea paid heavily for these two players in the hope of salvaging its 2010-2011 Premier League season.

The remaining games should be shared between Anelka, Drogba, Luiz, and Torres.

While I cannot guarantee success with my suggestions, it is a beginning.
