Yes, you did see the end of Raw right, Jerry "The King" Lawler is the number one contender for The Miz's WWE Championship.
Jerry Lawler has been involved in a match nearly every week since early December, something that is uncommon for a commentator. He has even gotten clean wins over The Miz, while Miz can't get clean wins over Lawler. In one instance. It took both Alex Rielly and Michael Cole for "The Awesome One" to retain his championship.
It isn't like the WWE doesn't have many other options. John Morrison could have won the "Raw Rumble" and gotten to main event a pay-per-view with his former tag team partner, The Miz. They could have had Sheamus win, only for Triple H to cost him the title at the Elimination Chamber. One of these choices would have made too much sense, I guess.
Unless we see a swerve we are going to have a sixty-one year old commentator compete for the WWE Championship a month and a half before WrestleMania. But why is the WWE ignoring other options in favor of Lawler.
Maybe they want a stacked Elimination Chamber. However if this was the case, numerous superstars are rumored to be ready for a return, namely Triple H. One of those guys could be inserted into the match instead.
Maybe this is the reasoning:
Is the WWE depending on Jerry "The King" Lawler too much?
The WWE has lost faith in John Morrison. Remember, Morrison had earned a shot to be the number one contender, only for it to be the opening match on Raw. He has been back to the mid-card ever since. John Cena and Randy Orton are in other storylines. Sheamus is a heel and R-Truth is a joke.
The other possibility is that they want Jerry Lawler to become the WWE Champion. Nah, they aren't that stupid or are they?
