NBA Trade Rumors: 8 Trades That The Knicks Should Consider By The Deadline

Sam SiegelJun 6, 2018

The New York Knicks have a good team this year.  They have been competing for a playoff spot for most of the year.  Many indications point to Carmelo Anthony coming to the New York Knicks sometime during the season or during the summer.  The Knicks need more pieces to the puzzle besides Melo.  They need a back up point guard, big man,  a shooting guard, and defenders.  I will break down a few trades that the Knicks should consider by the trade deadline.

Three Way Deal Between The Knicks, Bobcats, and Nuggets

1 of 8
CHARLOTTE, NC - JANUARY 12: Kyle Lowry #7 of the Houston Rockets scrambles for a loose ball with D.J. Augustin #14 of the Charlotte Bobcats at Time Warner Cable Arena on January 12, 2010 in Charlotte, North Carolina. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowl

The Knicks need a back up point guard to provide Raymond Felton with some rest.  DJ Augustin is a guy they should target.  Here is a 3-way deal that I came up with between the Knicks, Nuggets, and Bobcats.

Knicks receive: Carmelo Anthony, DJ Augustin

Bobcats receive: Al Harrington, Aaron Afflalo, Bill Walker

Nuggets receive: Stephen Jackson, Danilo Gallinari, Eddy Curry, and Landry Fields

How this works for the Knicks: Well, basically, Carmelo Anthony is their prize.  They also get a very good point guard in DJ Augustin to help out in the back court with Raymond Felton.

How this works for the Bobcats: The Bobcats receive a very good forward in Harrington who can provide a spark of offense.  Aaron Afflalo has played great for the Nuggets this year.  He can defend and score.  Then Bill Walker is a guy who can provide some 3-point shooting for the team.  He won't be a starter, but he's a decent bench player.

How this works for Denver: After Denver loses Melo, I think they would focus on re-building the club.  They get two young future stars in this league in Landry Fields and Danilo Gallinari.  They get a very good veteran presence of Stephen Jackson, who we all know can score, and Eddy Curry, who I think still has some talent left in him.

Three Way Deal Between The Knicks, Nuggets, and Timberwolves

ORLANDO, FL - NOVEMBER 03: Jason Williams #44 of the Orlando Magic drives past Sebastian Telfair #3 of the Minnesota Timberwolves during the game at Amway Arena on November 3, 2010 in Orlando, Florida. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agree

Sebastian Telfair is a very solid back up point guard.  He can dish out some assists and he runs the floor well.  I came up with this.

Knicks receive: Carmelo Anthony, Sebastian Telfair

Timberwolves receive: Al Harrington, Aaron Afflalo, Anthony Randolph

Nuggets receive: Kevin Love, Danilo Gallinari, Eddy Curry, and Bill Walker

The only question is, would the Nuggets be satisfied with only Kevin Love and Gallo as their big prize?  This is questionable, but I'd be surprised if the Nuggets wouldn't take this.  Kevin Love is a great player.  He's proved he can score, rebound, and play defense as well as anyone in the league.  You won't find many players like Love in this league.  Plus, he most likely will ask Minnesota for a trade.  There has been reports that he wants out.

Three Way Deal Between The Knicks, Bobcats, and Pistons

I came up with this three way deal between the Knicks, Bobcats, and Pistons.  This is if the Knicks don't get Carmelo Anthony.  If they don't get Melo, I think they will turn their heads to Gerald Wallace of the Bobcats, who has been linked to many trade rumors this season.

Knicks receive: Gerald Wallace, Rodney Stuckey

Pistons receive: Eddy Curry, D.J. Augustin, and Anthony Randolph

Bobcats receive Tayshawn Prince, Danilo Gallinari, and Toney Douglas

This deal involves Carmelo Anthony and Roy Hibbert coming to the Knicks.  I'm not sure if Hibbert would be available at the deadline, but I think I came up with an offer for the Pacers that they would like.

Knicks receive: Roy Hibbert, Carmelo Anthony

Nuggets receive: Danny Granger, Danilo Gallinari, Eddy Curry, Kelenna Azubuike

Pacers receive: Al Harrington, Anthony Randolph, J.R. Smith, and Bill Walker

This deal is good for the Pacers because they get a good player and veteran presence of Al Harrington, a young and talented Anthony Randolph who they did have interest in earlier in the season, and a great scorer in J.R. Smith.

Potential starting line up for the Knicks: Felton, Fields, Carmelo, Stoudamire, Hibbert

Potential starting line up for the Pacers: Collison, Smith, Dunleavy, Harrington, Foster

Potential Starting line up for the Nuggets: Billups, Granger, Gallinari, Martin, Nene

The Knicks need help with defense at the big man position.  This is where Chris Kaman OR DeAndre Jordan come into the mix

I came up with this:

Knicks trade Eddy Curry and Kelenna Azubuike to the Clippers for Chris Kaman

or

Knicks trade Anthony Randolph or and Kelenna Azubuike for DeAndre Jordan

Deal Between The Knicks and Rockets

6 of 8
BOSTON, MA - JANUARY 10: Courtney Lee #5 of the Houston Rockets takes a shot in the second half against the Boston Celtics on January 10, 2011 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. The Rockets defeated the Celtics 108-102. NOTE TO USER: User expres

This deal involves the Knicks getting Kyle Lowry and Courtney Lee from the Rockets.  The Knicks are in need of a shooting guard to provide a soild back up for Landry Fields.  This is where Courtney Lee comes into the picture.  He's a solid player in this league.  We all know the Knicks need a back up point guard.  Kyle Lowry would be great for the job.

I came up with this:

Knicks receive: Kyle Lowry, Courtney Lee

Rockets receive: Toney Douglas, Anthony Randolph, and Kelenna Azubuike

Deal Between The Cavs and The Knicks

7 of 8
MIAMI, FL - DECEMBER 15: LeBron James #6 of the Miami Heat passes around Anderson Varejao #17 of the Cleveland Cavaliers during a game at American Airlines Arena on December 15, 2010 in Miami, Florida. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agree

Anderson Varejao would be a great fit in New York and so would Ramon Sessions.  How's this?

Knicks receive; Anderson Varejao, Ramon Sessions, Samardo Samuels

Cavs receive: Toney Douglas, Anthony Randolph, Eddy Curry

Deal Between The Knicks and Kings

NEW ORLEANS, LA - DECEMBER 15: Samuel Dalembert #10 of the Sacramento Kings shoots the ball over David West #30 of the New Orleans Hornets at the New Orleans Arena on December 15, 2010 in New Orleans, Louisiana. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledge

Samuel Dalembert has been linked to rumors this year and so has Omir Casspi.  Both very solid players that would help the Knicks a lot.

Knicks receive: Samuel Dalembert, Omir Casspi

Kings receive: Toney Douglas, Eddy Curry, Anthony Randolph
