Edwin Van Der Sar to Retire from Manchester United at the End of EPL Season
Edwin Van Der Sar stunned the football world by announcing his retirement as goal keeper for Manchester United.
The reason for retirement has been to spend time with his family especially since his wife Anne Marie suffered a brain hemorrhage in 2009.
He admitted that it is a difficult decision but one that was inevitable. The decision puts an end to an eventful career which took him to Ajax, Juventus, Fulham and finally to Manchester United.
Edwin Van Der Sar helped Ajax win the UEFA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup, Champions League, KNVB Cup and the Eredivisie.
During his time with Juventus and Fulham, he helped those teams win the UEFA Intertoto Cup.
Van Der Sar helped Manchester United win three titles for the Premier League and one each for the League Cup and Champions League during his 250 appearances with the team.
He also participated in the 2008 FIFA World Club Cup for Manchester United. The career of Van Der Sar will be remembered as one of the most eventful in the history of United.
I would like to congratulate Edwin Van Der Sar on his decision to spend time with his family. It is something that few people contemplate in their careers.
While sports is important, family is also a very important part of a person's life in which everything is based upon.
He also deserves congratulation at a time when athletes such as Brett Favre announce their retirement only to return again and again.
I would like to wish Edwin Van Der Sar the best in the remaining time with Manchester United. He also deserves the best times with his family since he has earned it.
