Racing at Santa Anita With Marc Doche: CHRB Meeting Doesn't Ruin The Day

A competitive eight-race card awaits on a Thursday afternoon at The Great Race Place, which is much more enjoyable to focus on than the squabbling and seemingly endless circle of unproductiveness from this morning’s CHRB meeting.

We’ve gotten off to a flying start through the first three weeks of the meet and hope to keep it rolling under sunny skies and mild temperatures this week.

The effort to slow down the main track continued on Tuesday with the addition of sand to help replace what was washed away with the rains during the first week of the meet. Workout times were a touch slower the past two mornings, so we’ll see if there is any impact in the afternoons.

We’re off to the races!

Best Bet of the Day (ROI based off $2 WPS bet)

Race 3 - #2 Lady Lazer (7/2 ML) – The scratch of Suances Flower to her inside leaves the four-year-old daughter of Marino Marini on a lonely lead on the stretch out. Five stamina building works since her last at Hollywood Park in November should help her get the mile and a sixteenth.

Monday’s Result – Got all the money with Warren’s Knockout (+$13.00)

Total for 2010-11 Santa Anita meet – (-$17.30)

Late Pick 4

Leg 1 – Race 5 (3,5,7,9) – A mile on the turf for $32,000 claimers and we go four deep in a contentious affair.

No. 3 Asperity woke up in a big way in his last with the move to John Sadler’s barn and has continued to work lights out since.

No. 5 Wing Forward takes a massive drop in class after not being too far behind stakes company twice last year.

No. 7 Kris Silver needs to get to the lead, which could happen today with Martin Pedroza climbing back aboard for the first time in over a year.

No. 9 Lease of Life needed his last and fired three bullets since, loves Santa Anita and drops.

Leg 2 – Race 6 (3,4,7,8,10) – The first of two maiden claiming events and we’ll go five deep in this $30,000 affair for three-year-olds.

Leg 3 - Race 7 (4,6) – Some nice older females sprint six furlongs in this allowance optional claiming event and we’ll use No. 4 Crisis of Spirit, who reunites with Mike Smith and has trained consistently for her return for Bob Baffert, and No. 6 Church Camp, who also shows a steady work tab and has proven the ability to fire fresh.

Leg 4 – Race 8 (1,3,6,7,9,11) – Six deep in this bottom level hodge podge of older $20,000 maiden claimers going a mile and a sixteenth on the main track.

Recap – (3,5,7,9) w (3,4,7,8,10) w (4,6) w (1,3,6,7,9,11) – Total cost of ticket = $120
