Rafael Nadal Takes First Match: More Australian Open News

Lauren LynchJan 18, 2011

Rafael Nadal has just soundly beaten the Brazilian competitor Marcos Daniel 6-0, 5-0, with Daniel retiring in the second set. Clearly, the world’s No. 1 was too much for the 93rd ranked right-hander out of Brazil.

With a double-bagel match leading his way, Nadal seems to be in good health and looks to continue on his way to a non-career grand slam.

Bernard Tomic finished off Frenchman Jeremy Chardy 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5). After a testing third set, Tomic was able to regain control and bring about a upset as Tomic, currently ranked at 199th, won of the 44th ranked Chardy.
