What The Haye?: Wladimir Klitschko Vs Dereck Chisora Bout Reset For April 30

Johnny WalkerJan 5, 2011

Promoter Frank Warren is reporting on his website today that the previously cancelled fight between heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko of Ukraine and Dereck 'Del Boy' Chisora of the UK is back on, now set for April 30 in Germany.

"This news is a fantastic late Christmas present," Chisora is quoted as saying.Ā  "I always believed that I would fight Klitschko, and my faith has been repaid."

Perhaps Wladimir was stung by the blow to his image over questions about the severity of the injury that caused him to cancel this fight, which was originally set for Dec. 11, 2010 in Mannheim, Germany.

Klitschko was caught out on the golf course in Florida not even two weeks after the cancellation of theĀ bout because of a tear to the champion's abdominal muscles.

While Klitschko is doing the right thing in honoring his fight with Chisora (if this report is accurate), questions will now be raised about the status of his proposed meeting with WBA champion David Haye.

UPDATE:Ā Dan Rafael of ESPN.com now confirms via Twitter that heĀ has spoken with K-2's Bernd Boente, and the Wlad-Chisora fight is back on.

Haye andĀ Klitschko apparently agreedĀ on money, but could not find a date or site suitable to both Sky Sports andĀ RTL, the Klitschkos' German broadcaster.Ā

The earliest available date was July 2.Ā  According to Rafael,Ā Klitschko was unwilling to go nine months without a fight, while Haye didn't want Wladimir to take an interim bout.

MORE:Ā Wladimir Klitschko has apparently said a July 2 date with WBA champ David Haye is still in the cards.Ā  Klitschko also told Reuters that Haye won't fight his older brother, WBC champion Vitali, because he "hits too hard."Ā

Haye, however, says he tried everything toĀ make this fight happen, agreed to all demands, and is now finished as far as the Klitschkos are concerned.

Stay tuned....Ā
