Rumour Mill in Overdrive Part III: Liverpool Move For 5 Strikers; Torres To Go?

Welcome to the third part of the January transfer window watch where we take a look at each player linked with a move to or from Liverpool FC.

After four days Liverpool had already been linked with sixteen players and as many as five new managers!

For the duration of this window, a complete list of players linked with Liverpool FC will be kept updated right here on BleacherReport.... and come the end of the window we will see just how accurate the media reports are!

Latest Players linked with moves to/from Liverpool FC:

Per Mertesacker is on Liverpool's radar again according to, following up reported interest on the German defender from a couple of days ago. Arsenal also rumoured to be interested.

Italian media reports Alberto Aquilani's agent as having said that the midfielder will likely stay with Juventus once his loan period from Liverpool expires.

Stephen Ireland is on Roy Hodgson's radar according to Metro, who estimate that a knock-down fee of £4 million will be enough to prise him away from Aston Villa just half a season after he moved there from Manchester City as part of the James Milner deal.

Various sources including Sky Sports and late yesterday surfaced stories of Liverpool enquiring as to the loan availability of Manchester City forward Emmanuel Adebayor. The Togolese forward has been marginalised this season by manager Roberto Mancini and has long been linked with a move away in this window. With Edin Dzeko on the verge of a move to City it seems possible Adebayor could be about to leave - though his destination remains unclear.

Two more repeat names now - Lacina Traore (Daily Mirror) and Ricky van Wolfswinkel ( have both been the subject of Reds' enquiries according to today's media reports, while have also linked Liverpool to Asian superstar Keisuke Honda. The skillful Japanese forward, who can also play on the left or in the centre of midfield, is currently contracted to CSKA Moscow but has been the subject of interest in the media since it was claimed that CSKA would be selling one of their talented playmakers - Honda being one, Alan Dzagoev being the other.

The Guardian online states that Liverpool are considering a move for Tottenham's Croatian full-back Vedran Corluka. The right sided player has been left out of the team over the past month or so in favour of Alan Hutton, despite having started the season the number one choice for the position. Corluka can also play in the centre of defence and is composed on the ball. offer Davide Santon as a Liverpool target. The young Italian full back can play on either side and is an Inter Milan player, seen as a big prospect at both club and country level. say that Liverpool reserve forward Jordy Brouwer has completed a permanent move to Dutch outfit ADO Den Haag, following a successful trial spell.

Nuri Sahin is a midfielder playing in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund. The classy Swiss international is said to have a £5 million release clause in his contract which can be activated by any club "challenging for trophies" - something which would rule Liverpool out of bidding for him, despite the reported interest from the club according to TalkSport.

Sky Sports have again linked Liverpool to Rennes midfielder Sylvain Marveaux who will leave the club in summer as he is out of contract. The left sided player is currently injured and will miss most of the remainder of this season.

The Daily Star picks Owen Coyle as the man who tops the managerial wanted-list for Liverpool. The paper says that Frank Rijkaard and Didier Deschamps have both ruled themselves out of the job - should it become available.

The same paper also carries news of a young Liverpool player, Tom Ince. He has recently been on loan with father Paul's Notts County side and has reportedly turned down an offer of a new contract with his parent club.

The Transfer Tavern has news of more than one player for us too: Per Mertesacker is linked with a £10 million move to the Reds yet again, while they also claim that Bayern Munich will splash the cash with a massive £32 million for Reds' striker Fernando Torres.

The final two offerings come from Firstly they claim Liverpool have made a 13 € million offer for Ivory Coast forward Gervinho and are currently awaiting a response from his club Lille. Gervinho can play on either wing but is predominantly an attacker; pacey and with a natural instinct to run at players, he is seen as a viable option due to his versatility, price and supposed availability.

Finally, a rumour which is already dead in the water - the same website claims Liverpool were highly interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Mahamadou Diarra; however his agent claims he is set to stay at the club and therefore the proposed interest is off.
