Mark Cuban Calls Miami Heat Best Team in NBA: Is He Right?

Sean GrimmDec 20, 2010

A few weeks ago, entrepreneur and Mavericks team owner Mark Cuban went on the record proclaiming the Miami Heat are currently the best team in the NBA. Anyone who knows the Mavericks and Cuban probably wasn't sure what to make of that statement, given Cuban's dislike for the Miami Heat.

Prior to placing the Heat on a pedestal, Cuban made sure to make fun of LeBron James and the Heat's slow start early in the year—another reason why it's quite difficult to understand why he would be so willing to praise Miami all of the sudden.

Perhaps it was to make his Mavericks look better, since they once again defeated the Heat on Monday night. Miami has failed to beat Dallas in the regular season dating back to 2004.

Regardless of his motives, the statement was made; unfortunately he was wrong, Heat fans. The Miami Heat are not currently the best team in the NBA.

So who is?

Well, at this point in time it looks like Cuban's own, the Dallas Mavericks, are the NBA's best team.

The Mavericks are the hottest team in the NBA, winning 14 of their last 15 and breaking winning streak after winning streak. Right behind them are the San Antonio Spurs, followed by the Boston Celtics, and then at this point and time I suppose you could put Miami and Los Angeles down as even.

On some nights, the Miami Heat look like a well-oiled machine; running the fast break, locking down opponents on defense, and making the majority of their jump shots.

On other nights, the Heat have looked like exactly what they are—a very good team that is still struggling to find its identity on a consistent basis.

They just aren't there yet. Will they be? Without a doubt.

Just be patient, Miami fans. A 12-game winning streak is a great start.

However, most importantly, fans need to remember one thing—it doesn't matter who the hottest teams are in December.

What matters is who's hot in May and June—just ask the Mavericks about the summer of 2006.
