UFC Pres Dana White Crushes The Competition With Brock Lesnar vs Randy Couture
Did UFC President Dana White score a major TKO over top challenger Affliction MMA by signing Randy Couture to return against former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar? For all sorts of reasons, former ECW owner Paul Heyman sure thinks so. Heyman, who was also a major creative force behind Brock Lesnar's rise to stardom in WWE both behind and in front of the cameras, argues that the matchmaking of Lesnar vs Couture makes UFC "The Ultimate Fighter" in the sports entertainment game.
In a blog posted this morning exclusively at http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/wrestling/heyman/article1658736.ece, Heyman writes So, what was the biggest story in all of professional wrestling this week?
Was it the awesome face-to-face between Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho on Raw? Nope.
Was it the major scare WWE had when it was thought Shawn Michaels would be out of action for up to 6 months? Wrong answer.
Was it the huge announcement that Mick Foley had indeed decided to leave World Wrestling Entertainment based on WWE Chairman Vince McMahon screaming at Foley over the headsets, and the subsequent announcement that Foley had signed with TNA Wrestling? Not quite.
Was it simply the buildup to WWE's Unforgiven pay per view? No, that's not the answer either.
The biggest story in professional wrestling this week, and the biggest story in Mixed Martial Arts as well, is the signing of Brock Lesnar vs Randy Couture for UFC 91.
While we've all become accustomed to the carnival barker style boasts of "Biggest Main Event of All Time," it would be hard to dispute UFC President Dana White's proclamation of this cage fight being the biggest in UFC, and therefore MMA history.
While the downside of this fight is enormous because one of these two major attractions is going to lose a lot of steam coming off a loss, the upside is far greater.
UFC, which eclipsed its own Liddell vs Evans UFC 88 pay per view with the Lesnar vs Couture announcement, pulled the Ultimate move by putting together this fight.
Heyman goes into full detail as to why he thinks UFC could not have possibly matched Couture against anyone else but Lesnar, and why he thinks his WWE camera-mate is the most famous MMA fighter in the world right now.
Highest recommendation. Very informative business read on the world of sports entertainment and UFC.
