Andy Murray Sets Up Semifinal with Rafael Nadal at US Open

Andy Murray has produced his best-ever Grand Slam performance by reaching the US Open semifinal, but he's not finished yet.

The sixth-seeded Scot may have failed to trouble Rafael Nadal in five previous attempts, but Murray is in the form of his life right now and maybe, just maybe, Nadal isn't.

Juan Martin Del Potro (19) was always going to be tough opposition. The Argentinean went into the quarterfinal off a 23-match unbeaten run.

Britain's No. 1, as I mentioned, is on top form and won through 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-1), 4-6, 7-5.

What is really impressive about Murray is the way he seems to be finding shots and his form when he needs them most. He's been on the ropes countless times at Flushing Meadows and in previous hard court tournaments, but for the first time is pulling through and not folding under the pressure.

Add to that his demolition job of 10th seeded Stanislas Wawrinka 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 and there is certainly some cause for optimism amongst the Brit's fans.

Is the new grown up Andy Murray good enough to beat Nadal for a place in his first Grand Slam Final?

Well only time will tell, but I'd say it's his best chance yet.

No matter the result against Nadal, Murray will be up to fourth in the world rankings!

Maybe the thought of his big brother Jamie's securing his second Grand Slam Final title before he has his first is spurring him on?

Jamie Murray and Liezel Huber are in the mixed doubles final at Flushing Meadows, and the older Murray (22) already has a mixed doubles Wimbledon title to his name.

Time for some catching up, Andy!

    Hi Andrew,
I been tracking Andy Murray, and like to add that Andy's mental strength is tremendous! He is definitely a top 4 player together with Novak Djokovic, although i wouldn't say he is the same league as Federer or Nadal.

looking forward to that mouth watering clash with Nadal, if he wins, he is definitely going to make heads turn!

He has stepped up and is in my opinion capable of beating anyone on any day. He has beaten Federer and Djokovic so it's only Nadal now.

He is along way from being world number 1 but the progress shown in the last 6 months is pretty amazing.

      Thanks for the fan add.

As of Monday, the world rankings will rightly reflect Murray's improved status, when he becomes world no. 4 a position guaranteed even before he beat del Potro. Whilst it may be to soon to say that Federer's star has fallen, Murray, to me, looks set to become part of a 'Big Three' in men's tennis over the coming years.

Nadal is a machine. Watching him against Federer in the Wimbeldon final was mind-blowing. I was amazed by the determination he showed and wondered how he could always find energy to fight back in that long match. I'll burden myself with a prediction. Nadal will beat Murray :)

As a Scot I know it's prob true but we thrive on underdog status :)

Nadal may take the win but Murray will be back and he'll be better again.

i love andy murray's tennis. no question about that. i like andy better than novak djokovic or roger federer. i have the feeling he will surpass any of the two soon, as long as he remains healthy and positively-minded.

on the other hand, rafael nadal has blown almost everybody in atp tennis since the start of the second quarter of the year. he stormed the championships and the south african airways rankings literally into supplanting federer's former number one position.

i'd go for rafeal nadal against andy murray.

he has already proved that multiple times before.

rafa is a powerful diesel engine. only blisters can hurt his game these days...
