Player Duels: Bryan Robson Vs Paul Scholes
Player Duels is back again! This is the eighth instalment of this series in which I compare two players and ask all readers to leave a comment and vote who you think was the better player.
You can find links to the others at the bottom of this page, where voting is still open.
Today's duel sees two of the best Manchester United midfielders ever: Bryan Robson v Paul Scholes.
Both could make a killer, pin-point pass to set up a goal, or finish off a chance as well as some strikers. Both have played more than 300 matches for Man Utd, having a huge effect on the success of the club during their time there.
Bryan Robson
"Captain Marvel" as Man Utd and England fans called him, Bryan Robson was an iconic image for club and country throughout the 80s and early 90s. If he wasn't so injury prone then he would have made an even bigger impact.
He started his career with West Brom, playing there for seven years, before moving to Old Trafford for a British record transfer fee. In his 13 years at Old Trafford he led Man Utd to two Premier League crowns, three FA Cups, and a European Cup Winners' Cup.
His overall career statistics are 115 goals in 568 appearances. He also won 90 caps for England, the sixth most in history, scoring 26 goals, making him the eleventh highest scorer for England. 65 of his 90 caps came as captain, a tally only bettered by Bobby Moore and Billy Wright.
Paul Scholes
A modest, yet unbelievably talented midfielder, Paul Scholes is one of an increasingly rare group of footballers who do all their talking on the field. Part of the Man Utd academy with the likes of David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and the Nevilles, Scholes has stayed with the Red Devils his whole career.
In his 16 years at Old Trafford, Scholes has won eight Premier League titles, three FA Cups, a League Cup, five Community Shields, an Intercontinental title and two UEFA Champions Leagues. His retirement from international football in 2005 hit the country hard, and he has been repeatedly asked to re-consider.
His career stats stand at 139 goals in 570 appearances, all for Manchester United. He has also won 66 caps for England, scoring 14 goals along the way.
So, ladies and gentlemen, who is your pick? Bryan Robson or Paul Scholes? Remember anyone can vote, just leave a comment saying who you have picked.
