Arsenal are done for... they're done-diddley-done-for!!! What is Wenger doing?

Mary O'SheaAug 25, 2008

Arsenal are done for, they've sold their best players, are going to drop out of the top four and be lucky to reach the group stages of the Champions League.

Well according to the British and Irish media they are but I as a Gunner of 14 years beg to differ. I for one am sick of hearing this tripe every other pre-season.

Last year it was reported that Wenger had made the biggest mistake of his managerial career by letting Henry leave the club, Arsenal were going to be bypassed by archrivals Spurs, "foolish Arsene," screamed the tabloids!!

Come season's end the story was so so different, Arsenal have rid themselves of a player who was past his best, getting selfish and made a profit to boot. They finished third, losing out by four points and really should have won the Championship judging by the unexpected draws they had over teams they would normally beat.

Oh and where did mighty Spurs and all their money finish... 11th!! Wenger got his young team to third in the league and the quarters of the Champions League playing arguably the best football in the world.

Yet here we are 12 months later hearing the same rubbish. The media portray Arsenal's transfer market dealings as if they were to ensure impending doom for the club, but look at them in detail.

Lehmann has butter fingers, Gilberto is past his prime and Hleb wouldn't shoot if he was five yards in front of an empty goal. The only loss is Flamini who had a great partnership with Fabregas, but if he wants to put money over repaying loyalty and Champions League football so be it.

In came Nasri, who is quoted as the new Zidane and a fixture in the French squad, Ramsay who will be played in Carling Cup and FA Cup matches and Silvestre who has top experience.

So why all the doom mongering?? If Arsenal's full squad is fit and ready they can beat anyone, anywhere. If the rumours are true and Wenger signs Alonso then I can see Arsenal going all the way this year.

So tabloids, cut the crap!!

Perhaps they just can't stand the fact that Wenger is loved by Arsenal fans in a society that demands instance success and spending bucket loads to do so.
