Jose Chepo De La Torre New Coach Of The Mexican National Futbol/Soccer Team

Jose "Chepo" De La Torre has just been named coach of the Mexican National Futbol/Soccer Team by majority vote in the headquarters of the Mexican Football Federation, or FMF by its initials in Spanish.

He replaces Javier Aguirre who abruptly resigned after the 2010 FIFA World Cup. De La Torre takes over at a time when the national Mexican Football/Soccer Team is suffering from a crisis which left players signing a petition that they would not play if called.

The petition was in response to a suspension of some players in light of a scandal in which certain members of the Mexican Football/Soccer Team were involved in a party that was not authorized. The scandal in my opinion was terrible for Mexico since it showed an image of players being irresponsible in a party.

The petition forced Nestor De La Torre (Chepo's Brother) to resign as Director of National Selection.

Chepo De La Torre has to prove himself in the years to come including the Gold Cup and America Cup as well as other tournaments from CONCACAF in order for Mexico to classify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

He has previous experience with Chivas of Guadalajara and Toluca as coach. While he left Chivas secondary to problems with its owner Jorge Vergara, Toluca accepted him and the team had a golden era under Chepo's leadership.

FC Toluca won the title for the Mexican Opening League of 2008 and was able to classify within the year 2010.

It remains to be seen what will transpire with this new era as comparisons are being made between his period with Toluca and the current one.
