Crisis and Rebellion In The Mexican National Soccer Team

Roberto Alvarez-GallosoSep 28, 2010

The Mexican National Football/Soccer Team apparently has been infected with rebellion against its directors in the same way France was affected during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

It all began with an after game party when Mexico finished its friendly game against Colombia. The party involved some members of the National Football Team (supposedly) with "prostitutes".

The end result was the suspension of Carlos Vela and Efrain Juarez for six months while 11 other players received fines.

The ruling by Nestor De La Torre who is the  Director of the National Team Selection was unpopular among the players and the response was rapid.

Rafael Marquez, Francicso Rodriguez, and Carlos Salcido have lead a petition of 13 players who have demanded the resignation of Nestor De La Torre from his post as Director of The National Team Selection.

The petition was signed by Guillermo Ochoa, Hector Moreno, Andres Guardado, Gerardo Torrado, Javier Hernandez, Carlos Vela, Enrique Esqueda, and Giovanni Dos Santos.

The signers stated that they do not want to be called to play for the National Team of Mexico until De La Torre resigns or is fired.

Cuauhtemoc Blanco has been another who has been supporting the players in their call for De La Torres' ouster.

The reason has been that Mr. De La Torre has "lost touch with the players and that he is out of touch". Nestor De La Torre recognizes the presence of such a letter but refused to elaborate any more.

It remains to be seen how this will affect Mexico in the near and distant future. In the present tense, it appears that Mexico is not the same after the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
