Melanie Oudin

Young Melanie Oudin has a tough road ahead of her. She has the hopes and dreams of a nation riding with her.

She also has the weight that if she doesn't create the success she had last year that she may drop out of the top 100 and have to qualify to get into the main draws of bigger tournaments.

I have read that Melanie will be sporting the word Courage on her shoes this year. We all know that she is very courageous, but is that enough to give her a shot at the US Open.

We will see.

Chances of Winning: 125-1

Andy Roddick

Andy-roddick-us-open_1154958_display_image

In my opinion thee lone american male that could win the US Open.

Andy Roddick has shown that he is the best American in the field, but can he overcome his bout with mono and win that elusive second slam.

That will be the question going into the US Open. Roddick has played very well since returning to competition, and has shown that he is still playing like he did at the beginning of the year when everyone was talking about this maybe being the year.

So as the US Open approches lets hope that Andy can draw energy when needed from the crowd and bring the US Open trophy back to the USA.

Chances of Winning: 14-1

Mardy Fish

Mardy Fish, the fast rising American dark horse for this years US Open.

Mardy has come out of the gates running following Wimbledon. He has had one of the best summers of anyone and certainly the best of his career. Mardy has gone 34-13 this year and is getting close to a personal best ranking. He has amassed a 16-2 record this summer and climbed to 21 in the rankings.

So lets hope that Mardy Fish can continue to play like he has all summer and win the whole thing.

Chances of Winning: 20-1

Sam Querry

He's not your tipical uncle Sam. No this is big Sam Querry.

With an impressive summer that included a victory in Los Angeles over Andy Murray in the final, we hope that Sam can improve on his 3rd round showing last year and make a run for the win.

With Sam's huge serve and powerful groundstrokes that fit the hardcourts well, Same could be a huge factor and an outside favorite to win.

Chances of Winning: 65-1

John Isner

Marathon man John Isner will look to get out of the spotlight of his marathon match at Wimbledon by making a run at the US Open.

His run to the 4th round last year was a great note on the men's side, but John needs to have a breakthrough run at the US Open this year to really show that he is a major threat to win.

On the fast hard courts Isner will  rely on his huge serve to win lots of free points and it he can get a rhythm going on his serve we could be in for a upset in the later rounds.

Chances of Winning: 75-1

Venus Williams

By far the best shot on the women's side to win the US Open of any American Venus Williams will look to show that she is still a factor at majors.

Although she hasn't played since Wimbledon, Venus still has to be considered a factor at the US Open. After all she is a two time champion.

With her powerful serves and ground strokes she can dictate play from the start of any match.

Chances of Winning: 8-1

Taylor Dent

Although a long shot Taylor Dent has the style of play that can cause problems for players.

He attacks at every opportunity and has a huge serve to come in behind. Dent, looking to continue with success that has put him back into the top 75, he could very well make a run that could surprise many and maybe cause an upset or two.

Chances of Winning: 1000-1

James Blake

For James Blake this could be his chance to show everyone that he isn't ready to put his racquets away for good.

With his best results of his career coming at the US Open, including his epic five setter with Andre Agassi in 2005, lets hope that he can find some of the magic from that night.

With the J-Block cheering him on James could be a spoiler for a few of the top contenders.

Chances of Winning: 250-1

Robby Ginepri

Robby Ginepri has relatively been an underachiever his entire career. But with some glimmer of hope over the last year lets hope that can transition over to a great run at the US Open.

His run at the French Open shocked many especially since he is a hard court player, but nevertheless he showed that he can be a force if things fall into place for him.

Chances of Winning: 1000-1

Vania King

Vania_king_display_image

Young Vania King isn't really considered a singles player she is ranked 74th in the world. But she could be a threat to win the doubles crown.

Along with her doubles partner she could bring the doubles crown to the USA.

Chances of Winning: 25-1

Liezel Huber

Liezel Huber

Liezel Huber has been a top doubles specialist for years, and along with partner Cara Black she is the best chance of any doubles player to bring the championship home.

This multiple grand slam doubles champ will be a major factor at the US Open.

Chances of Winning: 4-2

LETS BE HONEST

Melanie-oudins-shoes-30225-1252433300-15_display_image

It is very hard to perceive half of these players making it to the second week let alone winning it.

But we forget that this time last year a young girl made a run of a lifetime.

So to all the Americans in the field.
