Is Anderson Silva The Best In MMA, I Think Not.

In my opinion Anderson Silva is not the best in the game. He has not performed like a champion should. Yes he is undefeated in the UFC. Yes he has the middleweight title. And yes, he holds the record for most title defenses. But in all, is that you want to see? Statistics. I myself want to see an action packed fight. I want to see a fight that has me on the edge of my seat. I don't want to buy a PPV and be sitting on my couch bored and actually considering turning the two hour $45.99 show off. Dana White apologized to the fans "Who actually bought this shit," for the Demian Maia fight.

When I turn on my TV, in any sport I watch professionally, I expect a performance. If I'm watching the NFL, I don't want to see the offense running in circles and doing nothing but kneeing the ball. I might be saying this because I have lost my respect for him after watching his last few fights. If I can't watch them I'm always on top of the results, how the fighters won, and if the fans enjoyed it. As I said earlier, I don't want to spend close to fifty dollars and not be entertained.

The statistics of the Silva vs Sonnen PPV were $1.56 million live gate. 12,971 people filled the stadium. I have a good feeling that a good percentage of them (and the fans at home) left the stadiums (and living rooms) disappointed. Anderson Silva made $200,000 for his win. Chael Sonnen made $35,000. But what grabbed my attention when I looked these PPV statistics up was that Anderson Silva was the only winner on the main card that didn't recieve a win bonus.

I'm not going to stress this point anymore. I buy these events to be entertained. If I wanted to waste fifty dollars, I'm sure I could find more interesting ways to do it. I'm not saying that Silva is not good. I'm not saying he doesn't win fights. I'm saying he doesn't perform like a champion. He doesn't act like a champion. And in my opinion, he doesn't deserve to be known as the best.

That's what I have to say on the matter. You can agree or disagree. If you want to post a comment, tell me who you think deserves the crown of being the best.
