Brett Favre Retires: Breaking Down the Vikings' Season Without Him

Nathaniel UyAug 3, 2010

Recent reports have revealed that Brett Favre has told teammates, "This is it."

With his retirement, the Minnesota Vikings will have a different look.

Quite possibly, the team turns from a Super Bowl contender to a team that may not qualify for the playoffs.

Let's break down the upcoming season without him...

Week One: Minnesota Vikings vs. New Orleans Saints

1 of 12
NEW ORLEANS - JANUARY 24: Adrian Peterson #28 of the Minnesota Vikings fumbles the ball as he was hit by Jonathan Vilma #51 of the New Orleans Saints during the NFC Championship Game at the Louisiana Superdome on January 24, 2010 in New Orleans, Louisian

The Vikings and Saints meet the first week of the season for a rematch of last year's NFC Championship match.

The defending Super Bowl champs will be too much to handle for the Vikings, who will most likely lose this matchup with or without Farve.

Predicted score (24-10): Vikings lose without Favre

Predicted score with Favre (24-17): They still lose to the Saints, but notch an extra touchdown thanks to a scoring drive in the game's last minutes and fail to gain an onside kick.

Vikings' record with or without Favre: (0-1)

Week Two: Minnesota Vikings vs. Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins are a much improved offensive team this year with the addition of Brandon Marshall.  They also have potent rushing threats in Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown.

Vikings lose again, predicted score: (14-6)

With Favre and his veteran leadership, they convert two touchdowns and a field goal.

Vikings win with Favre, predicted score: (17-14)

Record without Favre: (0-2), Record with Favre: (1-1)

Week Three: Minnesota Vikings vs. Detroit Lions

This is a young Lions team with a lot to prove and an emerging star quarterback in Matthew Stafford.  But with a horrific defense that ranked dead-last last year, the Vikings are able to pull out a win.

Predicted score without Favre: (24-14)

Vikings win but a costly Favre initiated turnover makes it closer than it really is.

Predicted score with Favre: (17-14)

Record without Favre: (1-2), Record with Favre: (2-1)

After a bye week, the Vikings face the Jets. They are simply overmatched by the Super Bowl favorites.

This is a blowout.

Vikings lose, and it's not even close.  Predicted score: (31-10)

With Brett?  They still lose and I actually see him getting hurt for staying in the game too long.  Questionable for the next week.  Predicted Score: (31-10)

Vikings' record without Favre: (1-3), Vikings' record with Favre: (2-2)

Week Six: Minnesota Vikings vs. Dallas Cowboys

Tony Romo and the Cowboys takes it to this Vikings team.

Vikes lose and offense is hurting, predicted score: (21-6)

With Favre at less than a hundred percent, they still stand a chance and score the winning field goal in a last second drive.

Predicted score: (24-21)

Vikings' record without Favre: (1-4), Vikings' record with Favre: (3-2)

Week Seven: Minnesota Vikings vs. Green Bay Packers

Almost every single team in the league has learned to zero in on Adrian Peterson, and Tavaris Jackson is just not good enough of a quarterback to lead the offense.

The Packers defeat the Vikings in this battle of rival teams.

Vikes lose, predicted score: (17-14)

With Farve, the Vikings win: (20-17)

Vikings' record: (1-5), Vikings' record with Favre: (4-2)
