Kasey Kahne, Mark Martin and Ray Evernham: Oh How We Love Silly Season

When NASCAR gets to 2011, some people may be confused as to who is where, namely Kasey Kahne and Mark Martin.

Martin keeps saying he'll be in the No. 5 next year. Lots of people assume he means at Hendrick Motorsports; I even did before. Though we're all not thinking outside the box.

As pointed out by Darrell Waltrip on Wind Tunnel, he may be in the No. 5 but not at Hendrick Motorsports. He may run that number with a Hendrick-associated team.

He could run it at James Finch, Stewart-Haas, or even Red Bull Racing. But how does Red Bull come into this?

Red Bull Racing was rumored earlier in the year to be looking to switch from Toyotas to Chevrolets and use Hendrick resources. Some rumors even have Kahne there next year, but what if it's Mark?

I personally believe that Waltrip's theory of wording isn't true as the No. 5 was Rick's first number. Would he let that number go easily? I don't believe so as he didn't when it came to switching things for Dale Earnhardt Jr. Instead of switching No. 5 to No. 88, he sent the No. 5 to his other team and dropped the No. 25.

I do believe something could be right about Kahne going to Red Bull Racing, however, as that makes sense if Red Bull makes the manufacture switch.

Also, Tony Stewart has said that he isn't going to a third car next year so therefore that takes Kahne out of the question there. Though is that really the truth? Or is Rick Hendrick being the master puppet behind the scenes, telling Stewart not to let out any hint of what's going on?

Lastly, James Finch is looking to sell his team so if Hendrick was to make some deal behind-the-scenes and send Kahne there, could that have a perfect scenario?

There are definitely lots of scenarios that Kahne could be put in for next year and now it's just up to us to watch Master Puppet Rick Hendrick do his work.

By the way......

Chad Knaus is right now at the top of his game and sometimes looks unbeatable. So how do we solve that? Simple - we bring the man that taught him out of retirement. A theory that could go forward in 2012, or even 2011, is Ray Evernham becoming crew chief for Kasey Kahne. Sure, he has said that he'll never be a crew chief again, but we all know how much he loves Kasey Kahne.

Also, Evernham has said that he'd love to go to Hendrick Motorsports and help out there. He just can't right now due to a non-compete clause with George Gillett and Richard Petty Motorsports that he's trying to sort out.

It'd be perfect to have him in the Hendrick Motorsports organization within the 5/88 shop as he could probably help them sort out all of their issues with his knowledge from being a crew chief and a team owner. But best of all, it'd put him back in his original home (Hendrick Motorsports) with his favourite driver (Kasey Kahne).
