Much has been said recently of the Twitter account, @sonnench , supposedly belonging to former Republican nominee, Chael Sonnen.
Recently, Sonnen has come under fire for the Twitter account, which has posted controversial tweets like, "Ed, pray to whatever Demon effigy you prance and dance in front of with your piglet tribe of savages that I decide not to CRUCIFY you."
The Huffington Post ran a story on Sonnen, calling these tweets racist and xenophobic.
Since then, Sonnen has denied being responsible for the Twitter account, but the details are confusing.
Sonnen added fuel to the fire recently at the UFC fan Q&A session for UFC 115.
During the Q&A, he denied owning the Twitter account, but appeared to slip up, confusing his real-life quotes with those of the supposedly-fake Twitter account.
During the Q&A, a fan asked about Sonnen's quote, "Anderson, you are going to be on your back more than a pornstar with a mortgage."
The fan asked Sonnen if he made that line up himself, or borrowed it from elsewhere.
Sonnen smiled, and said that it was his own material.
What Sonnen might have forgotten about is that there doesn't appear to be any official record of him having said those words, at least before the UFC 115 Q&A.
I did some Google searching, using "pornstar with a mortgage" in quotations, and all of the earliest results that I could find don't lead back to anything that Sonnen has actually said, but rather, they lead back to reports on the much-disputed Twitter account.
(In an aside, "pornstar with a mortgage" is one of the few Google searches that doesn't actually lead to porn.)
It appears like Sonnen may have slipped up, and couldn't distinguish things he's actually said from things that he's posted on Twitter.
In his speeches, Sonnen has often done a good job of mixing truths with clever deceptions, and has blurred the lines between his real self, and the pro-wrestling-like persona he's adopted for MMA.
Will Sonnen ever admit to owning the Twitter account?
Is there some other explanation?
