Popular Tomasz Adamek To Whip Michael Grant in August
Former cruiserweight champion Tomasz “Granite Chin” Adamek is scheduled to battle Michael Grant at the Prudential Center in Newark August 21.
Adamek (41-1, 27 KOs), a former IBF, IBO and The Ring magazine cruiserweight titlist, defeated Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola (28-2, 25 KOs) by majority decision last April.
Adamek has publicly stated that he would soon like to fight Wladimir Klitschko (54-3, 48 KOs), Vitali Klitschko ( (40-2, 38 KOs) or David Haye (24-1, 22 KOs) for one of their respective heavyweight crowns.
“This fight makes so much sense for me,” said Adamek, 33, who is renowned for having one of the best chins in boxing. “Michael Grant is a very big heavyweight. This fight will prepare me to fight Haye or Klitschko. First though, I have to beat Grant and I do not take him lightly. I was pleased with the results of my training camp for the Arreola fight, so for Grant we will follow the same hard regimen but also work on skills that will keep him guessing.”
Despite his enormous size and impressive pedigree, Grant (46-3, 34 KOs) is simply a bum who faltered in the ring and badly failed to live up to his lofty expectations.
Grant, 38, defeated some mope named Kevin Burnett May 7 at Oheka Castle in New York.
That match-up was Grant’s first bout since December 2008.
At six feet and seven inches in height, Grant is as tall as the Klitschko brothers. Hence, this match-up indeed will not be an entire waste for Adamek.
However, it will be a waste of time and money for Adamek’s legions of Polish supporters who will watch him fight in the slums known as “The Brick City.”
“Whatever,” said Charles Naghaski, a native of Poland who currently resides in Brookline. “He’s the guy I like to watch fight.”
Thankfully for boxing, Adamek versus Grant is rightfully being treated as nothing more than a glorified sparring session.
