Bayern Vs Lyon Live: Champions League Semifinal

The fact that Bayern and Lyon were to get in the semifinals of this season’s Champions League was something no one could ever foresee. The two surprise-teams have managed to eliminate Manchester United and Real Madrid from the race.

Lyon and Bayern have played one against another six times before as part of the Champions league competition and the overall score is tight (two victories for Lyon and two for Bayern, the other two games finishing with draw results). It’s practically a perfect equilibrium.

This will be the first Champions League semifinal match for Lyon. The French team got in the quarter finals three times in a row before, between 2003 and 2006. Bayern won the trophy four times already (once as part of the new Champions League) and also played three finals, which is a superior performance compared to the French team’s. 

Bayern have been in their best shape in a long time lately, as they crushed Hannover with 7-0 on Saturday, while Lyon finished a draw match playing on Bordeaux’ home field. However, Lyon have lost any chance for the French title, unfortunately.

Claude Puel, Lyon’s manager, has to deal with some significant issues for this first leg against the Germans: there are four injured players (Clerc, Hartock, Bodmer and Boumsong), two players whose condition is not certain (Makoun and Lisandro), and probably the worst detail is that approximately half of the team might miss the second leg in case they get yellow cards.

On the other side, things seem a little bit different: Van Gaal can’t count on Mark van Bommel and Holger Badstuber only, as they are both suspended.

We shall expect a Hollywood-like semifinals game, especially that both of the teams have had a route fed up with emotions until now. The odds are slightly favorable to Bayern, but at this level, this game’s result and the qualification are rather impossible to predict.
