Alabama Football: Tide Picks Up Two Commits on A-Day

The 2011 signing class is way ahead of schedule. Alabama added two high profile commits to the class just before the A-Day game.

The Tide dipped into the Florida talent pool once again, getting a commitment from defensive back Ha'sean Clinton-Dix, a five-star prospect living in the Orlando area. He gave his commitment to head coach Nick Saban while visiting Tuscaloosa on A-Day.

As a junior, Clinton-Dix accumulated 93 tackles, nine pass break-ups, and three interceptions. Thirteen of the recorded tackles were for loss. He is the No. 1 safety prospect in the nation and the fifth best prospect overall.

Clinton-Dix has been leaning toward the Tide for some time. The visit tipped the scales enough for him to take the plunge.

"He was thrilled to hear it,"  Clinton-Dix said, referring to Saban regarding his commitment to the Tide. "He told me that a safety who could play anywhere on the field was one of their top needs in this class, and he told me that he got their man."

Next to commit was Auburn High School defensive end LaMichael Fanning. Fanning is listed as 6'7" and 285 lbs. He is a four-star prospect listed at No. 12 overall. Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee have all expressed interest in the high school senior.

Update:

On Sunday, 4-18-10, top cornerback prospect Jabriel Washington out of Jackson Tennessee committed to the Crimson Tide. Washington plays at Trinity Christian Academy. He is listed at 5' 11" and 165 lb. Saban is finding and signing needed depth in the secondary for years to come.

Washington and his father called in his commitment to Curt Cignetti.

In a phone interview, Washington stated, "I developed a great rapport with Coach (Curt) Cignetti and he has always been very easy to talk with and very open and honest. Coach Smart and Coach Saban were also obviously big factors as well. My relationship with the coaches were stronger than with other schools for sure."

Fanning and Washington make the ninth and tenth commitments to the 2011 Tide class. It's not even May! RTR
