NFL Trade Rumors: Buffalo Bills Seek Mid-Round Pick for Marshawn Lynch

Michael PintoApr 12, 2010

ESPN's Adam Schefter and Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports are both reporting that the Buffalo Bills are seeking a trade partner for controversial running back Marshawn Lynch and are serious about trading him sooner rather than later.

The Bills are ready to part ways with Lynch after several off the field issues as well as a serious decline in production last season. Lynch rushed for only 450 yards in 2009 and has never been able to stay on the field for a full season.

Fred Jackson showed a lot of promise as the featured back in Buffalo last season, rushing for 1,062 yards on 237 carries. At 29 years old he probably isn't the long-term answer, but should be able to get the job done for the time being.

Lynch, on the other hand, has fallen completely out of the team's graces and it appears his days with them are numbered. He's reportedly been on the block for over a year, but the Bills look ready to deal him for discounted price.

They're looking for a mid-round pick, so don't be surprised to see them settle for a fifth-rounder and wipe their hands of this mess once and for all.

Its unclear how much interest there is around the league for Lynch, especially after his lackluster campaign last season, but for the right price there should be at least a couple teams willing to gamble on him.

After all, Lynch did rush for over a 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons in the league and has proven himself a decent threat in the passing game as well. He turns 24 just before the draft, but still is young enough where there should be a lot of room to grow.

In the right system, Lynch might be able to recapture his earlier success. But that doesn't appear likely in Buffalo. The Bills are ready to move on from their 2007 first-round pick; the fact that they aren't asking for much only presses the point further.
