College Basketball National Championship game Preview and Pick

The Championship match up is set as Duke and Butler advanced to play for the title of the National Champions. March Madness was a wild ride and mad indeed. Upsets were the common scheme for this year and no one outside of Indiana could have predicted that Butler would emerge as a five seed. Duke was questioned as a #1 seed heading into the tournament but they have showed they belong in the championship game. On Monday we will find out who is deserving of the championship.

Duke Blue Devils: Duke started off the tournament by getting no respect as many of the experts said they were undeserving of a #1 seed and that the ACC was having a down year. Duke has made them eat their words and Duke fans have rejoiced as the Blue Devils have ripped through the early rounds of the tournament and now are playing for the championship. Kyle Singler, Jon Scheyer and Nolan Smith have carried Duke all season, and after a 78-57 victory over West Virginia on Saturday night in the Final Four, they’ve brought the program to the brink of its first title since 2001. The opponent on Monday night will be the Butler Bulldogs.

Butler Bulldogs: Please stop calling this team a mid-major or a Cinderella, they are for real. They play solid defense and fundamentally sound basketball and deserve to be playing for the national championship.  Even coach Krzyzewski knows that Butler is deserving of this game.  “They’re one of the best teams in the country or else they wouldn’t be playing for the national championship,” said Krzyzewski. “Cinderella would be if somebody had eight, nine losses and pulled some upsets. They’ve won 25 in a row.” Led by Gordon Hayward this scrappy Butler team hustles to every loose ball and seemingly leaves it all out on the floor every night. They will have to raise the level of play one more time if they want to beat Duke.

Game Preview and Pick:

Butler has been winning with defense and has held the opposition to 60 points or lower in every game they played in the tournament.  When they face Duke they will be dealing with a team that can score from anywhere on the floor. During this winning streak Butler has beaten some pretty talented teams such as Kansas St and Syracuse. Butler believes they can win and they will have a home court advantage playing in Indianapolis. Duke travels well and they will have their fair share of fans but Butler will have their fans and almost everyone else in the country rooting for this underdog to pull off the upset. The weakness of the Butler team is size but this is a weakness they have overcome against nearly every opponent in this tournament. The Bulldogs are on an amazing run winning money for backers all year long.  The Bulldogs are 44-21-1 ATS in their last 66 non-conference games, 20-6 ATS in their last 26 games as an underdog, and 15-6 ATS in their last 21 neutral site games as an underdog. This line opened up at Duke -7 and has been bet down to 6.5 already in some places from some early sharp action. Butler has a legitimate shot to win this game and they will keep it close with defense and taking the points is the right way to go!
