MARK TITUS AND CLUB TRILLION, YOU HAVE JUST BEEN PUNKED!

Jasmyn LillyMar 26, 2010

Thank you to all who have taken their time to  read and comment on the article;

"Controversial Article About Evan Turner Being a Selfish Jerk is Outrageous"

You have all been participants and/or witnesses to an experiment in social discourse in America.

Mark Titus, creator of CLUB TRILLION at Ohio State University has been the subject of an experiment in social discourse using popular the communication medium of the internet know as "Blogging".

GOAL:  To see how inflamatory speech incites behavior and to what degree.

OBJECTIVE:

To target a popular figure  of a select group with an inflamatory accusation and see the response of their followers would.

QUESTIONS:

How does inflamatory language cause people to  react?

Will they take action or just be witnesses?

Over the past year I have witnessed several disturbing and inspiring events.   On one hand we have a national debate about the future of our nation which has  mobilized a passionate group of oppositionists called the  "Birthers" and the " Tea Party"  while at the same time a college student  in Ohio develops a blog called "Club Trillion".

While I have been dismayed to see the apathetic public response  and/or opposition to these groups who use this type of discourse regularly to great effect, I have also been inspired to see the active reponse of "Club Trillion" and the mobilization of their followers.

Club Trillion has a large following of approximately 1.5 to 2 million.   As a by-product Mark Titus has raised the relevancy of his following by using it to raise money for children.    Here's my question;  If college students will participate in "Club Trillion" if they direct their attention to political and national issues would they and not raise their voices regarding issues that will directly affect them in the next 2-5 years.

What would it take to get their attention and redirect it to community participation.

We are still compiling the evidence of this experiment, and will be providing its results in the very near future.  There was to be a part 2 to this experiment but as we review the type of response received from the participants it is better to conclude this prior to start of the Tennesee game.

I must confess to a few glitches experienced in the process of this experiment.

1st:

My psuedonym was omitted.  I hope you all don't believe I would voluntarily attach my name to the piece.  It was intended to be anonymous, but I ran into some tech problems with the blog site.

2nd:

The title was changed by the editorial staff and the blog was posted before I could approve or make changes.   It may have raised awareness to the experiment but it was not a title that focused on my target group. nor was it my intent to feature Evan Turner so prominantly.

3rd:

The subject of the article was Mark Titus and writer of Club Trillion.  The object was Evan Turner.  The title altered the focus.  For that I apologize, and for any fall out that caused a distraction to the OSU basketball team.  Hopefully this will  post quickly and prior to the game tonight against Tennesee.

THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION.

GOOD LUCK TO THE OHIO STATE BUCKEYES!
