Mike and Mike: Please Go Away
You would think that ESPN, the so-called "Worldwide Leader in Sports," would have a morning sports talk show that actually had nothing but actual sports coverage.
Not so much.
Since October 1998, Mike Greenberg and former NFL defensive lineman Mike Golic have been ESPN's boys in the morning that report everything and anything going on in the world of sports.
Well, that's the point of it. The execution of the game plan falls quite short.
Instead, we are "lucky" to hear about Golic eating hot dogs or how the other Mike feels about the Jets signing Allen Faneca to a long-term deal. Occasionally, there is an actual productive discussion in between Greenberg saying, "Mike and Mike in the Morning on ESPN Radio."
And quite honestly, I'm tired of both of them, most notably the nerd known as Greenie.
This guy is seriously ABC and ESPN's little whipping boy, doing whatever they want him to do. And he just goes along with it. Does anybody remember The Duel he hosted on ABC? I know I don’t.
Just a few days back when Elton Brand was making his rounds with the media after signing with the Philadelphia 76ers he appeared on the show with the two Mikes and talked about his contract.
There were no questions about bolting on the Clippers after they signed Baron Davis big money. No questions regarding the reports that Brand told Boomdizzle that he would re-sign with the Clips. They were kissing rear the whole time.
Where are the journalistic responsibilities with these two guys? ESPN is the big gun in the sports media world and now it’s crystal clear that they are more interested in entertainment than actual reporting.
How can you let a guy slip right through without addressing something that everybody else seems to talk about?
It is obviously something that Davis has been told not to talk about. At his introductory press conference, Davis was asked about it and said simply, “I can't tell you what I said to him."
So obviously one media member recognized what was going on, but why would the Worldwide Leader in Sports’ morning guys not address it? Sounds a little fishy.
So to steal a line from these two clowns, “Just shut up.”
