Top 5 Players In Men's Tennis Today!

Salaar ShamsiJul 10, 2008

Well, I'm probably going to get alot of stick for this article but this is how I feel, screw the official rankings.

(1) Roger Federer (Switzerland)

Well, the ATP Rankings also list him in at No.1 so there's not much room for argument, yes, he just lost Wimbeldon but only to Rafael Nadal, his closest rival.

Twelve Grandslams (Three Australian Opens, Five Wimbeldons, Four US Opens) ensure Federer is still undoubtedly No.1

(2) Rafael Nadal (Spain)

The Spanish sensation just beat Federer at Wimbeldon proving he is not just the 'clay king'.

The serve that thrills and a passion that inspires makes Nadal unstoppable, he has five grandslams to his name (Four French Opens, One Wimbeldon)

My last three choices will probably get me murdered because they are not where they are supposed to be in the rankings but hey, this is my opinion.

(3) Andy Roddick (USA)

Some of you, probably went,'what?' but hell yeah, Roddick is my pick.

Roddick, currently sits at No.6 in the ATP Rankings but he has a serve that kills, he holds the record for the world's fastest serve.

He won the US Open in 2003 and I feel he has never performed to his potential.

I know most of you would choose Djokovic, Ferrer, Ancic, Davydenko and Nalbandian but I'm going for Roddick.

(4) Marat Safin (Russia)

Another killer, I know, but Safin is fantastic player, forget the fact that he sits at 40 in the ATP Rankings.

Safin has Two Grandslams, US Open and Australian Open and I believe that like Roddick, he has also never performed consistently to his real ability.

(5) Lleyton Hewitt (Australia)

The Australian sits at No.28 in the ATP Rankings but have you ever heard of 'underperformer' or 'underacheiver' those words are probably best to describe Hewitt.

He has also won two grandslams, US Open and Wimbeldon but has never played to his capacity.

I believe Federer's reign has cast a shadow over him.

Those are my Top 5 chosen on ability and quality not on rankings or current form.

Which is why you don't see Ancic, Djokovic, Ferrer, Ancic, Davydenko and Nalbandian,Gonzales,Gasquet,Youzhny and Co in the list.

What is your Top 5, choose it on quality and ability not on rankings or current form.
