Hello Bleacher Report, Good mornings and afternoons to all the good folk of Bleacher Report, how are we? Anyway, I was commenting somebodies article and i thought of something. I'm a huge fan of Christian and The Miz, yet i just thought about when they started getting their popularity.
10 years ago Christian was a tag team wrestler with his "brother" Edge. They formed Edge and Christian, a very popular tag team with their mix of comedy and great wrestling. They had wonderful yet brutal TLC matches, and like all good tag teams they would eventually break up.
5 years ago, Christian was a midcarder with his Captain Charisma thing going on. He was alright, he had his "peeps". But lets be fair, his stock started rising amazingly when he began "dissing" the star attraction of the WWE John Cena.
IWC was screaming for Christian to get in the main event, and Christian almost made it. His contract expired and he didn't want to renew it on the spot. So he left, IWC got angry, Christian went to TNA and became a main eventer.
Christian finally came back, IWC kept increasing our expectations of him. We made up stories about how Christian had a World Championship clause in the first year of his contract, how Christian was unable to compete in WWE for 90 days after his contract expired with TNA (That false one was from some writer called Joe, as I recall) and how Christian would enter the Royal Rumble at 30 and win it, enter Wrestlemania and beat the Champ who would be Edge. Now all these were wrong, Christian made a return on ECW, and carried the brand from the moment he made his entrance, to the moment he lost to Ezekiel Jackson on the last episode of WWECW.
Though I believe Christian had a fan following big enough to keep him at the mid carder status in WWE, it was his mic work against John Cena that made us want to propell him to the top. It was his mic work against John Cena that made us realize Christian has more to offer than we first thought.
When IWC want something, they write plenty of articles about it. In my opinion, this boom of interest was due to some wrestler the Mainstream loves called John Cena. Some people may not like John Cena, but he was the reason we love Christian. Because we think John Cena sucks, we side with whoever thinks the same, and when Vince allows one of his wrestlers to sound our view point, we'll have a huge loyalty to him.
Now The Miz, he came out of a Tag Team where people believed he was the Jannety. John Morrison had the looks, the mic skills and he carried the Tag Team in wrestling matches. Many, including me, predicted The Miz would fade into a Jobber role and eventually be wished well on his future endeavours.
Yet Vince allowed Miz to do something that he hasn't allowed anybody to do since Christian back in 2005. Vince allowed Miz to berate the Biggest Star in the WWE, John Cena. Now dissing John Cena the way Christian did, it gained Christian a huge internet following. So when The Miz did it the same results happened. The Miz went ahead and had plenty of ridiculing promos for Cena, made a shirt with cenas name crossed out on and had the armband with his score against John Cena.
Now imagine if Miz was unable to completely cut loose on John Cena, Where would the Miz be?
The Miz was able to get that huge following that Christian gained when he dissed Cena. From there The Miz has been able to push on with his career, as his promo skills have improved considerably from his days on the Dirt Sheet. He won the United States Championship, and then was able to win the Unified Tag Team Championship with the Big Show. The Miz is a stellar performer, and he is perhaps the strongest Heel Mid Carder in the WWE, and he will be at Wrestlemania 26 against his former Dirt Sheet partner John Morrison.
Though I believe The Miz wouldn't have a big enough fan following before his interaction with John Cena and i believed he would have had a lower midcard at best status in WWE, it was his mic work against John Cena that made us want to propel him to the top. It was his mic work against John Cena that made us realize The Miz has more to offer than we first thought.
When IWC want something, they write plenty of articles about it. In my opinion, this boom of interest in The Miz was due to some wrestler the Mainstream loves called John Cena. Some people may not like John Cena, but he was the reason we love Christian and now I believe he is the reason we love The Miz.
