According to a few people within the WWE, it is said that John Morrison could be the winner in SmackDown 's Elimination Chamber match coming up in a few weeks at, well, the Elimination Chamber PPV.
Well, as I reported here on B/R a little while back, Morrison's WWE contract is coming up soon. He wants to win a World Title of some sort and knows that he is ready to achieve it.
According to those close to management, it is believed that Morrison has "paid his dues." Because of that, many want to see him win a World Title. Morrison has claimed that he does not want to stick around the WWE if they do not want to give him the World Title he deserves.
John Laurainitis is actually the man who is pushing the hardest for Morrison to win one, and he wants it to happen at Elimination Chamber. Many people figured that he'd either win the Royal Rumble or the Money in the Bank at Wrestlemania 26.
I, for one, was betting on MITB.
Now, keep in mind that JL pushes for a lot of things, and they do happen from time to time, but not all the time. So one would think that Morrison winning at EC is in doubt.
Guess who also loves Morrison and figures he can be a great champion...Triple H.
If you know anything about the WWE, you know Triple H has a massive influence on it. He is backing the decision to have Morrison walk away World Heavyweight Champion at EC.
He and Shawn Michaels love Sheamus and McIntyre, and guess who has titles right now.
Triple H likes Swagger and Bourne, and, as a result, they were put on RAW.
Let's just face facts: If Trips wants something it usually comes to pass.
Now, the win would be a shock to many. However, there is going to be a new champion regardless. Undertaker should be losing the title seeing as he has held it for a long time now.
I am actually kinda happy the WWE is doing longer title reigns. I was very sick of having a title change every month.
It was believed that Chris Jericho would win the World Heavyweight Championship at EC, then go on to Mania to face challenger Edge.
Fans have been waiting for Jericho/Edge, and many would think that a Morrison title win would wreck that.
The rumor is that if Morrison wins, two things could potentially happen.
One is that Randy Orton would win the WWE Championship and Edge would go after his WWE Title instead of the World Heavyweight Championship that Morrison would be holding. Morrison would then be challenged by either CM Punk or Chris Jericho.
The other idea is to have Edge challenge Morrison but have Jericho sneak his way into the match. The match would then be a gimmick, and the match said to be in the cards if this comes to pass would be a Hell in a Cell match.
The one idea that makes the most sense to me and others, though, is to have Jericho win the Chamber match, therefore holding the World Heavyweight Championship. He could then be challenged by Edge.
Morrison would have already won the MITB Ladder Match, which means he could cash it in at any point. I say that because the idea if they have Morrison win the MITB match is to have him cash it in the night he wins it, Wrestlemania.
It makes a lot of sense to have Morrison win MITB and cash it in at Mania rather than having him win at EC and wreck a lot of plans.
He would win a title either way!
The plans for Mania would then look like this:
Jericho/Edge for World Heavyweight Championship
Undertaker/Michaels (we know it will happen)
Triple H/Sheamus for WWE Title
Vince McMahon/Bret Hart (could easily happen)
MITB (winner Morrison)
Randy Orton/Ted DiBiase
CM Punk/Rey Mysterio ("Mask vs. Hair")
And more could be added, but then let's look at a potential card if Morrison wins the title at EC:
John Morrison/Punk or Morrison/Jericho for World Heavyweight Title
Edge/Orton for WWE Title
You really can't add too much to the card at this point. "Hair vs. Mask" is in question because Punk may face Morrison. So you take Rey Rey out. Ted DiBiase is out of Mania because he's not facing Orton (unless he's in MITB), and the all-around card doesn't look as good.
So giving Morrison the title at EC would be bad for business, WWE. That's just my opinion, but I'm sure others agree.
I am totally cool with Morrison winning the World Heavyweight Title. It's just the time and the place I have an issue with. Give him the title at or after Mania, but before? Bad idea, WWE.
