WWE 2010: Five Things I'd Like to See

Brent CaldwellContributor IJanuary 28, 2010

Listed in chronological order, these are five things I would like to see WWE do this year.

1. Give the Royal Rumble to Someone Who Needs It

The Undertaker, John Cena, and even Randy Orton didn't really need their Royal Rumble victories to challenge for a title at WrestleMania. They were all already very much established as top stars in the company. I'm definitely not saying that they shouldn't have won the Royal Rumble, but just pointing out that they didn't need the push that stems from winning it. However, it is understandable for storyline purposes, such as last year when Orton won it to set up the subsequent feud with Triple H, a fairly entertaining storyline, in my opinion.

I would like to see a new face at the top this year though; perhaps Ted DiBiase, CM Punk, Kofi Kingston, or someone else who has had a fair level of success, but hasn't really had that "defining moment," per say. I think for storyline purposes, DiBiase is the best choice.

2. A Heel Finish to WrestleMania

They almost got this right at WrestleMania 24. Orton defeated Triple H and John Cena in a triple threat match for Orton's WWE Title. This match should have closed the show, as Cena was that year's Royal Rumble winner. However, perhaps in the interest of "making the fans happy," they put Undertaker retaining his World Heavyweight Title against Edge on last.

There have only been two heel finishes in WrestleMania history; WrestleMania 2000, and the following year at WrestleMania X-Seven. That was almost 10 years ago; it's time for another one.

3. A Long Heel Title Run

It really doesn't matter who, does it?  Just as long as it actually happens.

It could be Orton, Punk, Jericho, Edge when he returns, Batista, anybody, so long as a top heel holds a world title for an extended period of time. Fourteen months would be a perfect length title run, in my eyes. Meanwhile, they can continue to switch the other title around every three to five months to keep things interesting in the other respect. So if CM Punk has a death-grip on the Smackdown! brand's title, the RAW title can move around a little bit.

4. Survivor Series Done the Old School Way

They have been pretty decent about keeping a hand full of traditional Survivor Series elimination matches on each PPV card, but I would still love to see it revert back to the original format of nothing but elimination matches on the show. I can understand why this was veered away from somewhat when the WWE roster was thinner, but the talent pool is so deep now, there is no reason why we couldn't see five or six elimination matches on the show!

OK, how about four elimination matches and two title matches? Would that be acceptable?

Oh, and how about a revamping of that old intro where they would pair the matches up with Vince McMahon shouting the names of the combatants as their photos fell into frame? That was awesome! In fact, they should do the same with the Royal Rumble!

5. I Want to See an Idiot Dressed Up in the Barbarian's Old Attire

Oh, well, it looks like I took care of that one myself. That's Dave up there. He doesn't know I made this, but that's okay.

Alright, so for a REAL No. 5, how about making the tag team division solid again? It seems like for the last decade, WWE has had a habit of establishing new teams, building them up, and then breaking them up. That should stop.

So what are your thoughts? What do you want to see WWE do this year, and into the future?
