Dear Jim Hendry: Chicago Cubs After Chan Ho Park? Say It Ain't So!

SI.com's Jon Heyman tweets that the Cubs are looking at Chan Ho Park. And if that's true, just say no, Jim Hendry.

Look, I know you need relief help and have a limited budget. Still, Chan Ho Park? You have got to be kidding me.

With Park and the recently acquired Carlos Silva, you could have two of the worst pitchers in baseball. While Park has been decent as a reliever, with a 2.52 ERA out of the bullpen in 2009, I just expect better from a team with one of the top payrolls in all of baseball.

What's that you say, he's 37 and shouldn't cost much? Well, is that we've come down to, picking up guys on the cheap because we can't afford the guys you really want?

If so, you only have yourself to blame.

You award long-term contracts with no-trade clauses like doctors give away lollipops.

Hey, I know that you are going to repeat your 2009 mistake and start a second baseman who performed well based on a very limited sample size in Jeff Baker. How did that work out with Mike Fontenot last year?

And yes, you do not feel the need to replace the early starts which will be lost from Ted Lilly's surgery or from the loss of Rich Harden.

Meanwhile, you are going with a closer who can't find the strike zone. I know he did well late in the season replacing Kevin Gregg, but again, sample size Jim. Sample size.

Even so, can't you get a relief pitcher who can consistently get people out? Is that too much to ask?

I know that the Rays are also looking at Park, but they have a relatively small payroll. I doubt they would be in on Park if they had the bloated payroll you have.
