Notes From The Championship Round Weekend
Collie and Garcon
Until a fourth quarter touchdown catch by tight end Dallas Clark, both Clark and Reggie Wayne were shut down for the entire game.
With Manning's two star pass catchers in able to get much done, this offense was going to have to rely on youngsters Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon to produce.
Produce they did as both Collie and Garcon had over 100 yards receiving and a touchdown catch each. Truthfully, one of the big reasons why this offense has been so successful this season is because these two receivers have stepped up.
Third year receiver Anthony Gonzalez was supposed to have a breakout year as he was taking over in the starting job that was left behind by Marvin Harrison. Unfortunately, Gonzalez injured his knee in the first game and missed the rest of the season.
Since his absence, both Collie and Garcon have filled the void and that is why this team is headed to the Super Bowl.
