Aric Almirola announced Saturday at the Sprint Sound and Speed event held in Nashville, Tenn., that he'll be back in the Sprint Cup Series driving for Phoenix Racing in 2010.
He's been negotiating with team owner James Finch; they'll run the entire schedule, regardless of sponsorship, and they won't be running as a "start and park" team.
"Well, I talked with James about it," Almirola said.
"I mean, his plan is to go full-time. Still working on a lot of things. At this point, when I got off the phone with him just the other day, it was we're going racing, and the rest will take care of itself. Hopefully, we can get everything situated in the next couple of weeks."
Almirola's deal with Phoenix Racing will still allow him to add some races with Billy Ballew Motorsports in the Truck Series.
He really had nothing lined up for this coming season. While Billy Ballew hoped to sign him for the coming truck season, but for it to happen it hinged on the team finding a sponsor.
With the season less than a month away, Almirola took the more promising offer.
Phoenix Racing found success with Brad Keselowski winning the April Talladega race, and James Finch has been in Sprint Cup since 1990.
It'll be nice to see Almirola back in the Cup, after his raw deal with Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing, and he should be a top 25 team if he's running in HMS equipment.
