Today (1862): The Modern Day Bowling Bowl is Invented
December 29, 1862
According to multiple sources, today marks the anniversary of the day that the modern bowling ball was invented. Actually, it is stated that the wooden version of the modern bowling ball was invented on this day in 1862. Today, they use some sort of plastic/polyester compound.
Truthfully, I’m a little confused. The game of bowling can be traced back to approximately 5200 B.C., when ancient Egyptians used stones for their balls. Is that what they were using all the way up until 1862 when some genius realized that a block of wood shaved into a nicer circle than the side of a mountain? Goodness.
