Highly Touted WR Trovon Reed (LA) Chooses Auburn University

Robert BrooksNov 13, 2009

Within a two week time frame, the entire facet of Auburn’s 2010 recruiting class changed.

What some say was going to be a class full of “what if’s” and being “in the mix for” top recruits,

Coach Gene Chizik and his staff showed they are no joke on the recruiting trail.

Trovon Reed, the number one prospect from the state of Louisiana out of Thibodaux High School, chose the Auburn Tigers over a host of top-schools, including in-state Louisiana, Oregon, Southern California, Texas, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia.

The fifth highest ranked receiver in the country, and whom many regard as even higher than that, picked Auburn due to a variety of the things. Reed said he viewed Coach Trooper Taylor as a dad, and this was back in September.

At that point, it became evident Reed held a special place in his heart for Auburn University. After attending the West Virginia game as well as coming to the Plains on several unofficial visits, he had seen enough.

Shortly after his recognition press conference for being named to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, Reed announced his decision to commit to the Tigers.

While nothing is final until February, Reed had a host of suitors, and seemingly fell in love with Auburn.

It’s long been rumored that Reed’s commitment will weigh a significant amount on highly touted prep running back Lache Seastrunk’s (TX) decision, but that is yet to be seen. Seastrunk and Reed are like brothers, and any team would be more than fortunate to have just one of these players line up for their offense, much less two.

While Auburn is heavily in the mix for Seastrunk’s services, the talk has quieted down since his unofficial visit during this summer’s “Big Cat Weekend” which gave fans the "What's up, Nick Saban? Wait 'til we get here " video.

Only time will tell if that statement will hold true, but for the second Friday in a row, Auburn Football is a huge winner on the recruiting trail, and Coach Gene Chizik keeps proving the pundits wrong.
