RANDY ORTON: Injury Couldn't Have Came at a Better, Worse Time

October 7, 2007- Randy Orton is given, then loses, then wins the WWE Championship at No Mercy.

April 27, 2008- 'The Age of Orton' comes to an end when (you guessed it) Triple H wins a Fatal Four Way Elimination match at Backlash.

And when the Legend Killer's chance to regain gold came, he was determined to make the most of it.

Unfortunately for him, destiny had other plans.

During his Last Man Standing match against Triple H at One Night Stand, Randy Orton seemed to be in control.  He had a cord firmly around his opponent's neck, and had been a two count away from regaining the championship.  Then, the former champion went for his signature move, the RKO.

It would prove to be a deadly mistake.

Triple H reversed Orton's attempt, sending the third generation Superstar to a devastating fall over the top rope.  With a loud thud, an enormous bruise formed on his back as he clutched his arm.  Fans in the arena and watching live on PPV heard Orton cry out to the referee:

 "My collarbone is broken".

The injury couldn't have come at a worse time, as Orton was scheduled to win the event, and the WWE title, and go on to Night of Champions at the end of the month.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...

On the other hand, the injury was a blessing in disguise for the former World Heavyweight Champion.  Samantha Orton, Randy's wife, is expected to give birth to their first child, a baby girl, in mid-July.  While he'd requested house shows off a month ago, it appeared his wish hadn't been granted, and he was going to miss her birth.  However, his clean broken collarbone is working for him, as he'll be able to spend time with his growing family.

Maybe this was his destiny after all.
